Currently our home-made deck has a hand rail 80cm off the deck.

I found a company that can make elegantly simple wire railings:
http://www.cable-railing.co.uk/cable-rail-how-to.p...

Total cost would be around £200 for five custom-made wires. Doesn't seem too bad but does anybody have any other suggestions for suppliers? It would be nice to be able to slacken the wires easily to get maintenance access to the water from time to time.

(Or other bright ideas for slowing down our kids' accidental entry into the pond?)

Perhaps not quite the finish you're looking for, but something similar to this (perhaps something a little more elegant) plus some cable:

The site you linked to also sells the component parts - might be cheaper to DIY?

Stick with these, I'd suggest - these are the suppliers I have got bookmarked for our builders having been looking for the same thing a couple of months ago. I couldn't find anyone better.

Thank you thank you. thumbup
I'll phone that company and see whether they can assemble something with one of those quick-release shackles at one end. I didn't realise they did that whole range of gear.

I just called and spoke to Nick in the sales team at that company. What a helpful and flexible bunch they are. Full marks so far.
