6x2 running longways for the worktop, held underneath by more 6x2 running fore/aft on top of the legs. Top with (replaceable) hardboard and edge with oak. That's how my father made his in about 1950 and I'm still using them

how many layers did u go for withe the mdf?? good job?
Just one thick layer. I figured I could replace it if I ever needed to, but it's fine after a few years of abuse, including welding on it etc. I've got a pillar drill, a grinder and vices bolted to it, no problems.Work top'd be fine as well.
I have a 3/8" thick aluminium sheet on top of an MDF sheet on my wooden bench. It makes things like welding on it so much easier, and it's always wipe clean. I doubt getting a similar sheet/plate would be cheap mind, but then mine was free from work as they didn't know they were binning it.

I originally planned to cover mine with metal sheet for exactly that reason, but never got around to it.Gassing Station | Homes, Gardens and DIY | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
