I managed to badger my Passat last weekend.
doing 45mph along a country road, ran out from a hedge, not even enough time to brake...
Worse bit was feeling it go under the car (as the car is very low), realising that it wasent dead, but was going to be soon and having to perform the Coup de grâce
Need a new front splitter too now

I reckon it's a pretty decent method of hunting using a car. Pretty easy to bag a couple of bunnies for the pot. Field dress the bunny, wrap in tin foil and place top of the engine. Drive round for about 45 minutes and you have a decent roast rabbit.
Actually, you are not permitted to pick up the animals you kill...The car behind you however may, and of course you may collect any roadkill you haven't killed yourself.
Had a few close calls normally foxes. One particular time ran out stupidly close to me and I was sure I was going to hit it but it survived another day.
On the other hand couple of years ago doing 70mph on a dual carriage way fox comes flying under the car infront straight into mine. Absolutely no chance of me avoiding it and pretty sure it was already deaded.
I've decided ducks are the most annoying animals on the road. The other week on my way home I drove past a pond and there where at least 20 ducks in the middle of the road. They didn't move out the way just carried on walking in the middle of the road. Luckily a pedestrian shooed them along otherwise I would of been there for a while.

Came across a duck and her ducklings one morning at 7ish going to work, she led them across the road in front of me cleared the kerb but her ducklings couldn't. I had to hop out and crowd them then bung them into the grass, I think she had already scarped, most of them were easy to catch but a few led me a chase around the road, one ran under the van that was in the queue that had formed, he nicely moved forward so I could get the last one. I am sure I gave a few people a smile as a powerfully built man ran around a road after yellow ducklings the size of his thumbHalb said:

while ago came round a corner doing the NSL and found a line of ducklings crossing the road. In swerving to try and get the wheels through the gaps i managed to take out 1 duckling with each tyre.
the missus still hasn't forgiven me - not that i ever bring it up to annoy her or anything,.

With badgers many that turn up next to the curb may not be roadkill. They're protected but many farmers whose herds are hit by TB don't take much notice....
This may be vaguely true for a few animals in some areas of the country but I'd bet money the majority are simply road casualties. It's well known that badgers disperse at about this time of year as the younger animals (usually the males) head off to join other groups and find new territories. There are also high densities of badgers in most areas of the UK and (I believe) the population is thought to be expanding every year, so many are bound to be hit. Added to that their very poor eyesight and nocturnal habits and dark colouring that mean people don't see them until they are on top of them and I'd guess most badgers by the side of roads are road kill.
I expect there are a few areas where baiting etc is still more common (up north/yorkshire way etc) but even there they'd be a bit stupid to put obviously shot or dog attacked animals out by the side of the road.
Anyway, suggesting most road kill badgers were done in by farmers is nonsense, unless anyone has any real evidence to prove otherwise
