At the end of the day we (as in my line of work) do have to respect the owners decisions to some extent even if we don't like it.
What? You can't believe that surely?

They are animals who feel pain and suffering, not a car or a broken TV. We might own any of those objects, pet, car, TV, but how we treat them certainly isn't the same.

If an owner hasn't got the guts to do the decent thing and put their pet down when the time comes, they're not fit to be a pet owner. Pet ownership isn't just about the good and happy times, you are totally responsible for them, in all respects, and that includes their welfare.

Tagging this woman serves no purpose though. Banning her from keeping another pet would.

I can and do believe it and if you read it properly you'll see I wrote 'to some extent' We are advisors, not the law.

99% of people can make the decision with some help and support, some just can't deal with it and struggle to know when the decision should be made and can't cope with the guilt they feel by making the decision. Some have religious beliefs and do not believe in euthanasia. None of these people are cruel owners (many have spent thousands of pounds on their animals) they don't want their pets to suffer, they just can't always see what needs to be done, none of these people should be arrested/ prosecuted etc

I have seen pretty much every scenario in my 22 years as a veterinary nurse I can promise you it is not as black and white as you seem to think.

If everyone who acted similarly to how she did were banned from keeping pets there would be a lot of animals missing out on some great homes. As I said if this woman had been deemed to be such an awful pet owner she would never have got her other dog back, I think this says it all really.

Well we'll have to agree to disagree then.

Like I said pet ownership isn't just about the good and happy times, you are totally responsible for them, in all respects, and that includes their welfare.

You can substitute the pet for a partner who's terminally ill or had a very bad serious accident, kept at home without proper care.

Extreme OTT comparison? Of course it is, but the similarity is the persons incapability to act.

How they treated the pet upto that point is irrelevant.

Sorry but I feel very strongly about anyone that causes any pet unnecessary suffering, don't care about the reason, don't care about their past history, if it can be prevented, it should be.

Must be wonderful to live in your world. If only life was as simple as you make it out to be.
