I’m in turmoil here.

My adopted Bedlington terrier - aged about 10 - has no symptoms at all.

He’s a happy little lad and was in to have his regular check up, Amal glands and drops for an ear infection.

The vet suggested a blood test and apparently various levels are very high. He wants him back for more tests scans etc.

He’s 10 - or thereabouts, so he’s not going to live forever Absolutely normal behaviour. No excessive drinking etc.

Had we not agreed to the blood test, we’d be none the wiser. We’d have our getting on a bit dog and life would be normal.

Now however I am in bits. I don’t want further tests to tell me he’s going to die.

I’ve had dogs all my life. I just feel like getting on with it and if he gets Ill - as all dogs do eventually - then I will make that dreaded decision I have made times before.

Sorry to hear your news. Have further tests though, if it's Cushings the treatments even 10 years ago gave my whippet another three years of decent life so hopefully things are even better now. One of my other whippets, now 10 years old, has bad rheumatism. Ten years ago the only realistic treatment was increasing levels of painkillers which eventually screw up the liver and kidneys. Now she's having monthly injections of monoclonal antibodies (Librella) which have transformed her, much less pain and more mobility. Unfortunately it doesn't stop the progression and will eventually be less effective so she'll need painkillers then but it has given her hopefully more years of decent life. As long as your dog has no pain, I'm sure he/she would want as long as possible with you.
Best of luck.
