How many dogs have you had in the past?

They are just smelly parasites with more teeth than brain cells to me, but the OH's family were dog breeders so I do understand them. He is trying to be dominant. He wants to be pack leader.
You're an ignoramus who by self admission has no clue what they are talking about, I can't possibly fathom why you replied on this thread. confused

Sounds like he needs time, time, time and time, with lots of hard work and interaction.

All from you!

I'd treat him like an 8 week old, to be honest. Monitor his every move - no more unattended garden rampages. Praise good behaviour immediately. Take steps to eliminate the bad behaviour - either ignoring or admonishing or distracting, depending on the behaviour in question. Interact with him far more - training sessions (back to basics stuff), playing, etc. Walks in quiet places, to reduce his adrenaline levels. Plenty of exercise - a tired dog is a lot less likely to rampage round the garden!

And following Mrs Grumpy's advice! wink

I am not. I left it to dog lovers to give detailed advice, but even Mrs Grumpy has overlooked the basics. It is not "Oh, poor doggy". They are pack based and territorial animals, and there are consequences if you ignore these traits.

I'd trust Mrs G's advice any day. She knows what she is talking about and is up to date with dog behaviour. What you are referring to is outdated and pretty much rubbished.

I think you'll find I haven't had a bad word to say about Mrs Grumpy's advice. But I do think the basics need to be remembered. I would never leave a dog alone with a small child playing or crawling on the floor. What they do when you are watching is not the same as what they do when you are not.

Your intrusion in this thread is bizarre. You appreciate dog-lovers yet hate dogs!

Takes all sorts.
