One of our cats decided, after getting friendly with our local hedgehog, that he too wanted a pet flea or ten. As such we now have a cat who'll be sleeping peacefully only to all of a sudden wake with a massive jump and scratch himself to pieces trying to tame his new found friend.
Before rushing to the vets and getting the expensive flea treatment they offer (Program) along with the initial consultation they insist on before letting us buy the stuff is the Bob Martin spot on treatment you can buy off the shelf in Tescos pretty much the same stuff? I don't mind spending the money if needs be but if I can get the same for a lot less then it makes sense to do so.

In a word NO. Some will say it works but we get many people comking in after using BM realising it's not doing the job.

However I'm not sure PROGRAM is what you need as it's an environmental treatment and won't kill the fleas on your pet it stops them from breeding, it takes a while to take effect on flea numbers. It is also very expensive!

I can't go to my local Pets at Home as I get sexually harassed by one of the staff. He's far to young for me.

He's only human afterall eh. smile

yes I meant to say if you want to go down the non vet route then I'd recommned Frontline which you can also get from a pharmacy

A friend of mine who is a vet warns every new cat owner she can off Bob Martin flea products. Apparently some of it uses the same stuff as their dog products, which is very unsuitable for cats.

It's more to do with the dog one contains an ingredients potentially fatal to cats but is packaged almost identically to the cat version (which is just a flea repellent not a killer) so people put the wrong product on the wrong animal resulting in some seriously sick cats. Most pull through but only if we get to them in time and it can be touch and go for 24-48hrs. All this sold as an OTC product!

Very interesting, out of interest how does it affect cats differently?
