Couple of days. Though unfortunately some stay on even when dead!

Tom phone your vets and see if they'll remove then for free (we do all the time!)

I'm pretty sure they're ticks, they're getting bigger and more 'tick-like'. Some are white but some are definitely red now - none are yellowish and I'm sure they're not bot flys.

I've dosed him with frontline - anybody know how long it takes to kill ticks? And are they likely to drop off?

Convincing him to sit still whilst I pull things off his ears with tweezers really sounds like we'll both end up bleeding.
Two nights ago I removed a tick off one of my cats that at first I thought was a puss filled spot! It was very small and white, but when I shone a bright light on it you could see the little brown legs. Looked very similar to your pictures from what I can make out. It was a bugger to get off because I didn't have my usual tick remover tool, but it had to come off because I couldn't sleep knowing the thing and the nasties it carries were on my cat.

These are the things we were taught to use to remove ticks while I was studying http://www.bada-uk.org/defence/removal/removaltool... They're pretty fool proof and remove the whole tick

My cat is very anti handling too but if you have two people it's pretty easy to avoid bloodshed! Just wrap puss up in a towel quite firmly with all paws covered while person number 2 gets rid of the tics.

Thanks for the link, just bought one of those. There are over 30 on him so it's going to be interesting. I know they're not good to have on him, but nor is leaving their heads implanted if I don't do it properly.

I'd still be wary, 30 ticks will be a lot for even the most tolerant of cats to deal with and they're on a very sensitive area. If you have given the frontline at least 24hrs to work then it should help a bit but your cat may get very stressed being wrapped up for the length of time it'll take to remove them so it's prob going to be a case of a few at a time!

Because of the numbers involved there is quite a risk of a reaction/ infection setting in so antibiotics may be needed(even if you don't leave any heads behind)
