Surely you must have someone you know who can come and feed them for you? As said above, this will also mean your house is looked after. Ours have access to a covered area with their beds in. We either use a friend or our cleaner who comes in twice a day and checks they are okay. We tell them to feed the cats and also provide a good supply of dry food. In both cases the cats are known, or the person is a 'cat person' so there is no fear they will miss injury or illness.

I struggle to see the risk of letting your cats live their normal life for a week or two while you are away. Most people here seem to overestimate the importance of the role you play in your cat's day to day life! Far better for them to continue their normal routine, than to get stressed out travelling to a strange smelling, cramped space with no attention and the stress of other cats (even if it is just a smell of them).

Plus when you return they are happy to see you rather then resentful!
