Since we moved out into the country a year ago, our six year old cat Rufus has put on a kilo of weight (5->6kg) and is rapidly expanding.

We think this is due to the increasing number of mice/rats/voles/shrews which he appears to be butchering and devouring. Thankfully he's not yet worked out how to peel the Moles he finds.

We've reduced the food we provide accordingly, but in the past month we've come down to find 4-5 collections of entrails smeared liberally across the kitchen, front door step and driveway each and every night.

We de-flea with Frontline monthly, and de-worm with Profender every three months. Given his recent spate of activity and tendency to consume anything which moves, is there any mileage in reducing the time between de-worming down to four-six weeks, or would this be bordering on dangerous?

Any advice is gratefully received

No not dangerous. Worm life cycle is 3 Weeks. So I'd advise worm now then 3 weeks later then worm every 6 weeks. What I don't know is if you can do that with Profender. My feeling is you can.

We have the same trouble with our hunter. Every three months wasn't enough to keep the worms away. Spoke to the vet and there is no problem using Profender once a month and so far it seems to be keeping on top of the 'rice in the bed' problem! Profender is great, my arms used to dread worming time but now its so easy, well worth the extra pound a month!

Thank you all for the feedback.

We're going to double check with our Vet later before placing a bumper order for profender with them. It's annoying that it's prescription only, as otherwise I'd be buying it off the interweb instead smile

And yes, he's quite a smug little sod as he's only one of two cats amongst the 10 houses within the square mile. We've watched him go out pack hunting with the other cat, the two of them cooperate in their kills. Reminds me of the lost boys, sleep all day, party all night.

You can get it off the internet, you just need to get a prescription off your vet. They will charge for the prescription so you just need to check whether it'd still save you money going down this route but it's worth asking smile Just make sure you use a good site ie avoid the cheapest sites (or even those that don't ask for a px)
hehe re Lost Boys connection.
