Hi,

I have a female cat aged about 14 who tends to sleep most of the time, wherever she sleeps she leaves behind what can only best be described as sand particles, if I brush her nothing is visible. I have no sand etc in the garden for her to roll in and she never ventures any further than our garden.

Hope someone may have come across this in the past?

Thanks in advance

Nope definitley not dust, if she has been sleeping on the floor and you happen to step onto them, they are crunchy hence more like sand granules. They are also not all the same colour upon close inspection.

Very strange indeed

The presence of ear mites can often be identified be the "dust" they leave around the ear so check for that.

Fleas? Ours dropped lots of black granules and shortly afterwards the fleas became apparent. Not sure if the granules were flea eggs or flea poo. But it stopped at the same time the fleas did.

I'm not aware of either ear mites or fleas but will look closely tonight when I get in. If it does happen to be either then what is the recommended treatment without taking her to the vets or is a visit the best?

Thank you for your suggestions.

Frontline for the animal. And hoover every night for about a week + insecticide.

If it's like my experience. However could be something else. Flaky skin?

dark particles like brown dust = flea dirt (poo)
pop some on kitchen roll paper and dampen - they turn dark blood colour.
