Hey all, does anyone else on here have a parrot? I've got an African grey who is now about 9 years old.

Just bought a new house and cage for him and he is adapting better than we could have imagined.

Still craving attention at every opportunity and myself and the good lady can't have a conversation in another room without him screaming and banging his water and food bowls.

Great little pets and nothing but funny.

He comes out with some great one liners...ie...watching match of the day last night he screams "penalty"....when I laugh he shouts "shut up"

Friend of mine has an African Grey called Hector who we used to look after when she went away. After we got our dog that had to stop as the dog didn't like the parrot. She got him as a rescue bird, I believe he is a teenager now.

He asks is you want a coffee, copies the smoke alarm, tells the dog to shup up when it barks, and various other things, my friend has never forgiven me for teaching him to stick his tongue out.

We've got an orange winged Amazon, he is 11 years old and we love him dearly. He was my mothers and we took him on 6 years ago when she died. He's rather noisy but we wouldn't be without him. Parrots are not for everyone though and can be aggressive towards some people. I would advise anyone thinking of having one to think very carefully for the sake of the parrot. There are thousands at the national parrot sanctuary that people have given up because they can't cope with the noise. Another thing to bear in mind is that they will most probably outlive their original owner.

I had an African grey who died of a liver disease 30 years ago,in those days vets were a bit out of their comfort zone with parrots.
I now have a green winged Macaw who is 28 years old ,had him from a chick,a very funny bird not as talkative as an African Grey though !

My Mum has a venerable old Amazon called Peter - the only one left now.

He was inherited from a friend's elderly Aunt when she became too old to look after him sell enough, as we were known for keeping parrots. He's a steady, slow, gentle old chap, who's led a sheltered life, and (sadly) had his wings clipped when he was young, so never really learnt (or developed sufficient musculature?) to fly.

But he's happy enough - likes attention, enjoys being part of the family, and is partial to a little porridge and curry (separately, mind) now and again.

I have an african grey ( Ozzy ) we rescued her from a house where a jack russell wasd tormenting her

She has been a bit of a plucker due to her past but we are doing eveything we can to break the habit.

Last month she laid a clutch of 3 eggs ( bless her ) and went very broody but she is back to her old self very quickly. I understand she would only lay eggs if in a happy plentiful enviroment so thats all good, just made sure she had enough calcium

We have only had her for about a year so the learning curve is still steep but we have a good specialist vet and lots of sound advice from the AGPC

She is a fantastic character , always steps up to us and others , very trusting , never ever bites , mimics allsorts and is always so happy to see me walk in the door

we've got a green cheeked conure..... not sure of the sex but personally think he's a male.
started out a bit bitey but soon settled down. loves attention and loves to be played with. His favourite game its to roll on his back, legs in the air and have his belly tickled whilst pretending he's being attacked. loves to sit on the shoulder and purr too. he's just under 1 year old ...if that and doesn't talk yet but the range of sounds he makes is amazing. can be a bit noisy but on the whole a great lil fella. sure he thinks he's a bat though... spends most of his time hanging upside down.

meant to say to our conure is called zousouni.... greek for little bug.... the other half is a bubble an squeek wink also found that he uses us for diffrent things... comes to me for a bit of rough and tumble and Maria for a cuddle and a love. beware though they like to shred paper so keep books out of the way.... very intelligent feathery bar stewards.. would love to teach him how to swear. how do you get a parrott talking ? cant reccomend these little mini parrots enough we got ours for 300 quid including a big cage and accessories, we are thinking now he's growing up a bit we are going to get him an even bigger cage. at the moment he's playing fetch with a ball of kitchen roll.... we throw it, he goes to find it, rolls around with it a bit then brings it back to be thrown again... loves monkey nuts too.... its like a parrotts kinder egg.
