Got home on Friday evening to be greeted by my wife at the door saying 'Come in quick!'

Kat was sitting on the bottom of the stairs, a gust of wind had then blown the landing door shut, and as it went over her tail, she must have leapt up the stairs, leaving about an inch of fur clean skinned off her tail. frown

No blood, but the tiny inch of tail at the end was furless and red-raw, she seemed a bit freaked out naturally.

Waking up yesterday it looked as though it bled a little, but she's been cleaning it and it now looks less tender and is dry.

So will this fur grow back after the skin mends itself? I'm assuming it will.

Totally freaky. confused

Tails do not heal well and you must stop her licking it, it will not heal if she does. If it is not looking much much better by tom she needs vet attention.

It will be sore (they often lick because it's painful) and you need to sure she hasn't cracked a bone (as my dog did when his tail got caught due to exact same reason)

Well she seems to have stopped licking it, and it is looking like it's healing a fair bit. She seems back to her normal self walking about with her odd looking tail up in the air.

You don't really realise just how tiny their tails are under all that fur.

As an update to this, the fur didn't grow back so it just looked like a ghastly inch or so of rat's tail sticking out of the back of the fur. It didn't really bother her and over the last couple of days she's been tugging at it with her teeth.

Last night we were sitting there and all of a sudden the inch or so of furless tail just dropped off onto the rug she was sitting on. Most bizarre. So three months since it happened and now she seems to have a normal but slightly shorter tail again.

The vet did say this would happen when she was at the vets about a month or so ago, but still pretty freaky when you see it just fall off like that.

Pretty bizarre all round really.

Holy s**t. AT least there is no infection or anything.
