I can't add up - I meant to say £12-£15 a week. hehe

Good luck, let us know how you get on! smile

Just found the guide on the website re feeding amounts. My Beagle (when adult) would apparently need approx 300g per day. Not bad at all really - cost wise - probably cheaper than the better branded kibble!

(300g doesn't sound much though, for a beagle?)

They don't need as much of it though - I can't remember what the woman at NI said, but she explained to me why they don't need as much. You could give them a call and ask, they're very nice people. 500g doesn't look like much for a lurcher either, but Poppy manages very well on it. She's not losing weight or anything.

Yeah, but that includes stuff like treats, Dentastix and all that kind of thing. It's only about a tenner if you remove all the treats. hehe

If we bought NI in bulk, and fed 300g per day, it would work out at 2.1 kilo's per week = approx £4.20. I reckon we currently pay more than that in James Wellbeloved. Not saying we have decided to go NI, but can definitely see the appeal over commercial food for those that don't want to buy direct from butcher or go full RAW. As said earlier, luckily the missus works next door to the butcher, so she can pop in daily and ask for a meaty bone hehe

Ah we don't give the dogs dentastix, they get organic carrots for the extra dental cleaning and they have shiny white teeth (as a few judges have commented in the show ring).

Ours won't eat carrots - she takes them, chews them into tiny bits and leaves them stuck in the carpet. She loves broccoli, but it doesn't have the same effect somehow. smile

Phooey if you want a well priced good kibble try gablestock agricultural feeds at long bennington. They are a few villages away from me and I guess not far from you. My dogs get 500 grms a day, 15kg of lamb and rice costs me 17.45 Vat free. They are doing as well on this as the super expensive premium brand I gave them before sturdy poops and not massive amounts. They also sell apple cider vinegar 2.5ltrs to preserve your lawn.

Cheers pb, yes nice and local - a couple of miles from work! I will bear the above in mind (thanks for the heads up) but atm we are moving towards fresh raw foods. May still continue to use kibble for breakfast though, whist she is a pup anyway.

eta - i bet you'll be going to the CLA Game Fair later this month at Belvoir Castle? smile

They do puppy food that my little bedlington pup is on and a greyhound food that is vat free that she'll be on when 6 months as puppy food has VAT.

Yes going to CLA assuming the weather isn't torrential rain. Bloody expensive to get in though @ 25 pounds and more on friday.

ETA - sure there is a place in newark that supplies raw offle etc can't remember where or the name though, sure they are near the cattle market though.

It's outrageous mate. Can't remember how much it was 4 years ago when it was last there, but we have 3 'paying' kids this time too. £80 odd?

Don't envy you that, and before you've bought a drink and lunch so that will be a 150 pound day out for you the misses and kids. Usually a really good day though as is burleigh and chatsworth. I'm just going to see the dogs and guns!

Has anyone got an opinion on the Serrano ham bones available in asda for a quid? I bought one for our border collie and he absolutely loved it, though he ate the entire thing within an hour. This worries me a little as its a cooked bone and was very hard. Are these things usually ok for a dog to devour?

Personally I don't give cooked bones to my dogs at all - raw only.

Raw bones are less likely to shatter or splinter, so less sharp fragments to puncture stomach walls etc.

I also only feed bone *in* meat, not a bone on its own. However I'm sure others have differing opinions.

My vet doesn't like cooked bones and certainly they have a higher chance of splintering sharply - I cut up a lot of meat of various kinds these days given the raw meat we feed, and raw bones just break totally differently.

I'd say please only feed raw.

There are a fair few people on-line who can supply tripe, chicken carcasses and lamb bones and so on...
