for goodness sake as if we don't have anough animals in this house! laugh

last week I noticed a pigeon following me in the garden, It was getting really close and when my partner came in from work and my friend was still following me, he noticed it was ringed and got hold of it, found owners phone number on its wing and gave her a call..

she didn't seem too bothered and asked if we could catch it, feed it and rest it for a few days and then release it, so we did, and released it on Saturday, straight onto our roof and hung about the garden ever since, so partner called owner again and still not really bothered made a joke about it liking our house better than hers, and asked could he release it away from the house. So he did this morning at work, 2 miles away or so, and I've just gone outdoors and the bloody thing has came back!

so it can fly, It's just decided to move 60 miles from home! but we really don't want it, and our cat stalking it and had a few near misses! so it really is a matter of time before he catches it,

help!?!? should we just stop feeding it and hope it buggers off? or should we try and get someone or a rescue to take it ,or just leave it to nature?(the cat)

Try releasing it again but further away, and closer to the owners home. I'm thinking at least 15 miles away. If that doesn't work then I've no idea.

I'm guessing the PH'er is Pigeon, he hasn't posted for a while because he got banned.

The problem with pigeons is that once they find a "new home", it only takes a few days to reset their homing nature if it's somewhere they like (unless kept in a darkened pet carrier for a few days so they've no idea where they are, transported somewhere, and then released)

I had this situation a few times while growing up. We used to get racing pigeons stopping over on our shed for 4-8 days.

We did have one that stayed for a good 6-8 months iirc. It used to sleep in the shed at night and then head off into town during the day, before coming back "home" at night. biggrin

not very helpful when I don't know what that is! laugh

thanks for all the replies,

well, he seems to have vanished, he hung around all afternoon, partner came in from work he reappeared, for 5 mins, we set the pet carrier up to try and catch him to try taking him further afield, but no sign of him... so fingers crossed he has buggered off!!

or the cat has a full tummy yikes

We seem to have been adopted by a crow here, which we've now called Russell.

He's got a limp and he and his Mrs have built a nest in a Damson tree at the front of the house.

Sadly, crow pie won't taste as well as pigeon!

Let me know if your friend comes back. I know where Pigeon (the person) is currently residing as moderator so I can point you in the correct direction.

Hopefully your guest has gone home and not been lunch for your cat

I think racing pigeons sometimes will hang about. We once had once that would come to our garage roof for a bout a week in the summer. For the next 2 years it appeared around the same time also so it obviously remembered us. They must like going for summer holidays in others peoples towns!

Actually the owner is supposed to arrange collection for the bird when reported as lost/ injured etc but because it costs them they try to get out of it.

At work if we get one I tend to contact the secretary for the area and they take it from there (Racing pigeon society)

thats what my partner thought Bex, thats why he knew to look on its wing for details etc, but the owner didnt seem bothered at all, even when we said we were worried the cat got it!

anyways, Roary the racing pigeon has gone! clap
