Phobias....Creatures that make you panic ?
Discussion
For me it is anything that can fly and sting.
My biggest fear by far are Hornets.
Why, oh why do these things even exist ?
Evil looking creatures that will chase and sting you for the sheer hell of it.
I once saw a guy using a strimmer close up to a hedgerow and he disturbed a nest of them.
You wouldn't have had a man run faster if he had an Alien Queen chasing him through a derelict spacewreck.
On top of that they make a godawful deep droning buzzy sound which must trigger some deep primal fear inside of me.
Anyone else care to share there innermost loathing of a particular species ?

I grew up with a similar peer-fed fear of spiders too.
I can see how they intimidate - especially big ones with lots of fast-moving legs that scuttle across floors rapidly.
Granted, they're not very nice to look at.
So, I developed an approach to liking spiders, bourne mainly from my monstrous, HATRED of flipping house - flies. These buggers are far worse than spiders. They land on poo and rotting food. Then, when they gain entry to your house, they look to land on any nice food you are preparing or trying to eat at the dinner table.
If they land on the food you are about to eat, they:
Transmit rotting bacteria and feaces onto your food from their feet.
Put their proboscus onto the food, regurgitating an acidy liquid that helps to break it down.
Tread the acid into the food with their bacteria-ridden, poo-laden feet.
Then suck the mush back up as sustenance.
Spiders: do none of the above, are not bacterially harmful, don't generally make a bee-line for your food - and the winner - KILL and eat these disgusting house flies.
Spiders are also fascinating insects, if you bother to do a bit of research on the net about them. How they spin webs, and the strength of their silk is fascinating.
Also, who hasn't loved the sight of a frosty spiders web glinting in the garden on a winter's morning?
So now, I love spiders in my house.

Cool story Ray.
I have, in the past owned a couple of Tarantula's.
A south American pink toed and the lovely Mexican red knee.
Obviously i can handle spiders easily and snakes for that matter but give something a pair of small wings
and the ability to sting and i'm outta here.
Cheers. They're good aren't they, spiders? I have, in the past owned a couple of Tarantula's.

But like you - wasps....wasps? WTF are they for? Angry little buggers.
I have a T shirt with a picture of one on the front, and underneath it says:
Wasps - Nature's wkers
I used to own 14 Tarantulas four black windows and some of those Wolf spiders with the really aggressive attitudes and the jumping and biting coupled with a natural ability to hide under toilet seats
Luckily for me they all escaped from the crate when I was moving house, I sometimes wonder what happened to them all.

I'm terrified of bees, but only in my sleep. A real phobia if I encounter one in a dream. When I'm awake, I have no fear of bees at all. No phobias of anything in fact.
Is there a word for that, a phobia in dreams only but not in real life?
Bloody odd, I think is the correct term.Is there a word for that, a phobia in dreams only but not in real life?
