Is the version from the vet's any different to the one you can buy at pet stores etc? Someone said the one from the vet is more potent (hence more expensive).

Thanks

If the active ingredient is 'Fipronil', then it's no different.

However I've heard from a number of sources that Frontline is no longer effective against fleas - they've become resistant to it.

Bayer 'Advantage' is what my vet recommends, and that's definitely vet only. Likewise 'Milbemax' wormer.

Why stint and buy (possibly fake) products? I'm responsible for the health of my cat, and therefore his wellbeing is paramount.

ETA: the 'dose' also varies according to the weight of the cat. I'd rather take my vet's judgement on this.

Frontline was useless for Whitney. Many colonies of fleas are resistant to it now apparently.

Advocate is what I use on her now.

Frontline works a treat for my two. The stuff from the vet appears to be identical to the stuff from the petshop

The difference we have is that the vet does larger doses for larger cats (Vertie falls into the heavy category), but he is 6kg.

looks like Advantage is now non vet only, it wasn't a case of "stinting" I was buying from a well known large pet store. Just because something is cheaper than the vets doesn't mean it's fake!

If it's Frontline Combo, then yes, it should be more effective as it contains an agent to kill the larval stage of fleas as well as adult fleas. Normal Frontline only contains an agent to kill adult fleas. Resistance has been rumoured for a while but nothing's been proved.
