Hi

Louie the terrier has just come home from the dogs trust. They have been feeding him on dried Arden Grange puppy food. Anything wrong with Pedigree??

Personally I don't like the pedigree, its a cheap brand with loads fillers. Arden grange is a better quality food by some margin, all but one of my dogs have been brought up on arden grange. Its expensive but worth it IMHO although I now feed my lot an equivalent from my local farm feed wholesaler which is still hypoalergenic and wheat free as per arden grange, the same can't be said for pedigree, bakers or wagg et al.

Agree with above. Plus it's not good for a pup to change it's diet too soon, unless it's not suiting the pup.

Lots of supermarket brands are poor quality and low in meat content.

Good dry foods I'd recommend Barking heads and Orijen. They aren't cheap bit they are quality

On a final note....any pics of the pup smile

We feed the Arden Grange working food, but the pups have all been on Beta puppy and it's been ok.

My lot get James Wellbeloved and do well on it. Being lazy and living miles from a decent supplier I get everything from here:
www.zooplus.co.uk

I can recommend their service.

Thanks I've just ordered some Arden Grange from Zooplus.

I may change his name from Louie to Sir stalot (never seen so much crap from a small dog)

Ours liked the Burns stuff.

I gather the trick is to avoid too much cereal which bulks up the cheaper brands?

Crikey, that Orijen is expensive !

It is but it is grain free and very low in carbs, this is extremely hard to achieve in dry food hence the cost. You can feed less than most other dry foods, this reduces the cost a bit.

Lots of poop generally equates to poor diet. Ideally most of the food eaten should be utilised by the dog resulting in less faeces.

Thanks interesting about the poo quantities. The Dogs Trust suggested 4x60g per day (they were using Arden Grange) Arden Grange feeding instructions suggest 134-202g per day (3-5kg) Louie is 3.5kg and 10-11 weeks so I may try 50g x 4?

Thanks Bex, I'll try this to see how it goes. I'm going back to the trust for vaccinations on Monday (Louie not me) so will discuss this and his fleas!!
