As soon as the vets opens I'll be on the phone for an appointment today.....

We have two cats - one is a Burmese of around 12 years old (boy cat) who was previously diagnosed (about 6 years ago) with Struvite crystals. He is on a Hills C/D diet.

Recently he's been losing weight - vets have done initial urine samples for diabetes & kidney issues and they're all clear. A bit of detective work and I think he has gone off the dry food (the seafood flavour) so have been mollycoddling him with the wet (c/d) food and the weight is going back on.

We're hoping to move house soon so there were a few viewings last week, but none since Saturday, and not that disruptive - only over 3-4 days.

Last night I'm sitting on the sofa, look over and he's sitting on my handbag. When I walk over, he's peeing in it. Loads of it - not spraying but sit down weeing. Handbag in the bin due to large puddle inside it.

This morning I come downstairs and tehre's a river of cat pee across the kitchen floor.

Vets don't open til 9 and I guess I need some reassurance/sharing !! He seems happy enough (soppy cat), but we go on holiday on Saturday for a week and I'm really worried !

Where can I get the plugin pheremone thing before Saturday... in case it's behavioural/stress related - I cant think of any way to reduce his stress levels. I'll get a litter tray and put it in the house too, and obviously off to the vets as soon as I can get him there.

Sorry to hear about the problems, our boy cat has this trouble from time to time.

Pets at home sell felliway. It was on offer in there yesterday, but still dearer than zooplus / vet UK.

What causes it in your cat? Is it medical or psychological?

Bit of both really, if he has not been drinking enough he gets constipation then he starts having wees in strange places. Almost as if he associates the tray with the pain of trying to have a poo. If we notice no solids in the tray for more than a day we'll give him a few syringes of water (orally).

But also if there are things going on out of the ordinary i.e. guests or decorating he can be found having a wee out of the tray, thankfully not very often!

Still not sure what it is - blood work was all fine so it's not his kidneys, and his thyroid is fine (thinking of the weight loss).

Vet is thinking cystitis so we're treating for that with 3 days worth of cystaid tablets + some metacalm liquid stuff, and we've got a plug-in pheremone diffuser thing in case it's stress related.

Also got an indoor litter tray now which he used for a wee straight away.

Fingers crossed! No puddles this morning smile
