Evening all, the missis and I are choosing our first ever puppy this weekend.

We've found a breeder in Irvine who has had a litter and we have put our name down for one of the boys. we get to choose him this weekend!

So any advice?! We are going to take a blanket down so that when we bring him back in a week he will have something which smells of his mum and siblings to comfort him whilst he settles in. Is there anything else i need to take? ask?

I'll be sure to take plenty of of pictures!

Oh, we are going to call him Baxter! Cannot wait!!
My westie Dougal came from a breeder in Irvine, more than likely the same one! He's a great wee character, 6 years old now but still behaves like a mischievous pup - loves getting filthy and barking at ducks/ice cream vans/car horns/postmen.

Just to add, our westie suffered loads of skin problems and through trial & error we settled on James Wellbeloved lamb flavour - not the cheapest but cheaper than continual vet bills for steroids!

Common westie food allergies seem to be particularly beef and even chicken, ours won't eat fish so we stick religiously to lamb flavour and touch wood hardly any itching or scratching.

I can't for the life of me remember the name of the dad, but the mum of Baxter is called Belle and this is her first litter. We met Belles mum and she was called Elle, and she is 4 years old so I guess they are not direct relation. They both looked very healthy and Belle was doing a good job of looking after her pups.

I have heard about the skin problems and the food you mentioned above is what the breeder recommended. I thinkwe'll have to be strict and not offer him any tit bits or start him on wet food.

Thanks for picture and advice, much appreciated.

They sure do, our Dougal has grown into quite a strong stocky wee thing - any excuse for more photos!

hehe, just laughing at the way the snow gives Westies little bobbly snow 'bootees', we have to defrost/melt ours when we bring him in from the snow - they all seem to love playing in the white stuff.

My mum and dads schnauzer was really bad for having snow boots. If deep enough he used to get a snowey undercarriage and a set of frozen gonads as well. Poor bugger.

I am loving all of these westie pictures.

Westies are such great dogs, my lads Jimmy and Albert are now 5 and 8...I whole heartedly recommend getting a second one, they have so much fun together.

This is them a few years back when Jimmy was a puppy, they still have punch ups like this.

The place we take our Westie for haircuts/grooming are also Westie breeders, it is difficult to resist bringing another one home!

There aren't many recommendations for taking on 2 puppies at the same time. More than twice the trouble. Get one now and another later if you still want 2.

I had my Westie (Jaz, female) for about 3 years and then got a male Westie as a friend. Jaz hated it and used to stalk him in the garden until he was scared. I had to give him back to the breeder in the end. Jaz had grown (or was born) to be an only child smile

Sometimes 2 puppies at the same time can be the best way. Also gets all the house training out of the way in one go.
