Our rescue cat, Tigger was set upon by dogs, and has been rushed to the vets.

He was immediately put in for x-rays and given painkillers.

He has been diagnosed with brain swelling.

I'm not there, as I don't live with my mother any more (My mum rang me..) but what are the chances of him surviving?

Cheers.

Very difficult to say but speed is critical. Sedation (and usually steroids to counteract the swelling) is vital, aswell as supportive tx such as I/v fluids and shock monitoring. They'll know a lot more in 24hrs.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Unfortunately, he hasn't made it.

His condition is too bad to keep him alive without being in excruciating pain.

RIP Tigger.
Getting 2 cats after Christmas as my Little sister hasn't stopped crying all day, she loves cats more than life itself.
She's only 4 bless her.

I don't live there, my mum has been telling me.

But she won't tell me, I have a suspicion that it was our patterdales as there is no one else around for miles.

Unless it was a rambler with a dog..

sorry to hear that, never a good thing to happen, even worse when you think it was a dog owned by the same person as the cat.

but on a different note.........as youve moved out,,, does that mean that your mum will be no longer working on your bike wink

So you suspect it was one of your dogs and yet two more potential victims are being acquired in January?

Hmmmm.

nono
The cat lived upstairs (He chose to when they moved into the house) and the dogs downstairs.

There is a stair gate at the bottom of the stairs and a door at the top, the only way the dogs could have got up stairs, is if someone left the gate and door open, but when that happened before the dogs ignored the cat. Something must of happened (Feel like inspector clueso here)

To be fair, it's a reasonable concern. I'd it was your family dog that did it, there is a high chance of a repeat of this awful event in the future (esp given his breed) and should be very carefully considered. Doors will get left open and dogs become repeat offenders, they are rarely ever one offs once it happens once.

Yeah I know what you mean.

They've got a while to find out what happens yet.

Then your sister shouldn't be getting more cats, unless the dogs are being rehomed or PTS!??!

Yeah I've been saying that to them, they have no common sense.

My mum doesn't like the dogs, so I think they might be rehomed.

I think it would be wise to rehome them to a non-cat owning family before getting kittens. It's a sorry situation to be in.

I've got two cats and two Jack Russells in a similar situation. If the dogs get past the stair gate or meet the cats outside there's no problem, they either ignore the cats or play with them. If the cats go over the gate and down the stairs then the dogs will chase them, they've yet to catch them but I'm unsure what would happen if they do. Maybe your cat jumped over the gate and invaded their territory.

Sorry about your loss.

Very sorry to hear about your kitty OP frown

I have a patterdale/JRT that loves my friend's cat (snow bengal called marvin). They chase each other, play, roll around just like two dogs do.

Is it possible that this could turn bad, i.e. should they be very carefully watched when together?

Funnily enough all my staffs I've had have got on with the cat over the years, must of been a shock for him to have dogs all of a sudden hate them.
