I'm not sure if this will help, it helped me a year ago. I don't envy you for a second, all the best.

Pretty similar situation there (especially with the toilet thing) and always difficult to know if what you're doing is for the best.

No, you need a couple of 5 yr old cats. I'm willing to deliver. (see my post above).
biggrin No chance! Been there before with one that hissed whenever you went near - don't think I ever stroked that thing. As you say though, it makes the loss of them a little bit easier to bear!

With that in mind, when we find some kittens that need a home, how do we tell if they're going to be good natured, friendly and generally good pets?

I think there's a certain 'window of opportunity' with kittens, within which, if they're well-socialised, they'll grow into friendly, well-adjusted cats.

In my experience, those cats who miss out on this stage remain skittish and never really settle.

I'd suggest that you pick an already friendly one from a shelter and go from there.

You did the right thing.

Like you I have had to make "the decision" and have always wondered whether we could have had a few more days, however it's best to get slightly on the too early side than slightly on the too late side.
