Brilliant! I've just got a bag of wood stuff recommended by another cat owner. He used the Cat San for ages but says the wood smells nicer which it does. They are pellets but breakdown into sawdust when weed on.

I have a compost bin full of green that defo needs some brown. biggrin

Cool smile

I've found the best wood chip litter is 'Smart Litter' from Asda. It's the most absorbent, has no 'mouldy old pallet' smell, and it's the cheapest.

The bummer being it's often out of stock. I buy four bags if ever I see it. Try lugging those home nuts

One of our 3 (a girl) insisted on forcing a wee out immediately after a tray was cleaned, even if it was only drops!

We used woodchips as well, much nicer smelling than catsan.

Oh they are beautiful.

We use Golden Grey cat litter which really helps with smells. They do a fragrance free one too.

Looks like the lady doesn't like the wood litter and has showed her displeasure by curling one out next to the tray.

Back to the Cat San........... for now.

They look lovely.

Off topic my mother recently indulged her cat by introducing a litter tray inside "for the colder weather". Cue me letting the cat in last weekend when I was around. The cat promptly curled out the stinkiest turd ever, didn't bother with burial and immediately asked to go back out again.

Lily goes to great lengths turnung roun & round & digging to get the litter nicely prepared ready to receive, but usually used to finish up with her bum hanging outside the litter trayrolleyes
Solved by getting one of the litter trays with a cover.
We use catsan, but put a plastic bag in the bottom of the tray as a liner, then a whole newspaper with its edges taped together on top of that followed by the litter. Makes it a lot easier to deal with & the paper absorbs a lot of wee.

Thanks for all the tips guys.

Lady kitten, Jess, is still pooing just near the litter trays even though I have gone back to the Cat San in one and the wood stuff in the other. How do I deal with that?

It's a shame as the poops were all going swimmingly until a day ago.

The boy, still unnamed, is fine with the wood stuff or the Cat San as he uses both trays.

yes Get a THIRD tray! Perhaps a covered one so her arse can't hang over the edge?

yes one per cat PLUS a spare smile

You could also move them out if the Lounge to somewhere more suitable? It might be a bit busy in there for them?

She knows what to do so there is an issue she has with something frown

I think it was me changing the type of litter although I have gone back to the original.

It's a quiet corner of the lounge and it is kept warm in there. The Kitchen and hall are freezing and a major runway for the kids and me doing the cooking etc.

I'm presuming that as they have been in there for a week as of today they will consider it as 'homey' if I let them wander the house. We have 3 levels so would I need to put a litter tray on each?

Sorry for all the questions and thanks for all the help, ta smile

We all start somewhere smile

As babies, Yes I'd put 1/2 on each level, but I'd be looking for a room they can have to 'themselves' I know I don't want my pair doing their 'stuff' in the lounge. Do you have a utility room? Toilet? Under stairs cupboard?

I suppose there are the loos. The best one would be at the top of the house but how does one get them to use a different place when they have just got used to the corner of the lounge.

Cheers....again smile

I'm so glad mine never like the tray but always went outside and used molehills.

It gave the moles something to think about.

Small litter changed (again) and big litter that was new yesterday scooped for wee.

Smell has virtually gone. So just being quick with the poop wasn't the answer.

Oh the boy has just jumped on my chest for a snooze. Butter wouldn't melt. biggrin

This was taken ten mins ago.

God they are adorable

Thanks smile

Couldn't find them this morning but my youngest found them curled up together asleep in a small shelf built underneath the dining bench where the kid's games are kept. The kittens had moved a game and had snuggled up behind it.

Saying that, trying to watch late telly from 10pm is impossible as they are play fighting and use us recumbent humans as their battlefields.

They are lovely! I have a thing for grey animals cloud9

Glad you've got rid of the smell. I can't understand the guidelines for leaving litter down for days, I clean the trays here (you think you have problems, I have 8!) through the day if they're used for numbers 2s and all of them get a full clean and rinse out in the evening. Never have any nasty smells.

I wouldn't recommend wooden litter, especially not for kittens, most cats don't like the feel of it on their feet and no matter how well litter trained they are will toilet inappropriately. Which then becomes a bad habit to break! Also once it has disintegrated into sawdust the tracking is a nightmare. Your kitten is probably toileting in the wrong place because she thinks 'hmm, last time I went in there I didn't like it' even if you've changed the litter back to what she prefers now. Just keep an eye on her and put her in the tray at regular intervals; after play, a meal, when she wakes up etc. She'll get the hang of it again. smile
