My mum has what I suspect to be a boomer ball for her bull terrier.

It's great because it's a fraction too big for Tess the dog to get her teeth into so it can't be chewed, the down side is that as it can't be chewed it has to be chased around the garden instead.

Like all bull terriers Tess has about as much subtlety as a bull in a china shop so she will chase the ball through things, like flower beds, fences, green houses, next doors garage wall, 16" thick armour plate from a battleship, you get the picture.

Joking apart Tess has managed to split her head open on her ball from nutting it so hard so her play time is always carefully monitered.

I know I sound like I have a dog in this fight, but I don't have any affiliation with Good boy toys, I'm just a satisfied customer.

I've been scratching my brain trying to work out how long I've had the three "Thingies" as they are called colloquially by family and friends.

I'm pretty certain a couple of them must be over five years old now.

This is pretty constant use in anger being thrown and brought back, thrown using a stick, which is actually a broom handle - this works in two ways.

  1. 1 dog slobber. The thingies get wet, muddy and sticky, the Stick means I pick them off the ground with little effort.
  1. 2 Throwing stick. The broom handle allows me to throw the thingy further and faster due to increased leverage.
I have replaced lost thingies ie Goodboy because they've been lost in action, I can't remember replacing one because it failed.

They do break.

I've always managed to mend them where the rubber snaps ( often at this time of year as it's cold ) superglue, and insulation tape - this lasts a long time - but not if you leave them to chew the thingy... they'll delight in picking of the tape and working on the crunchy glue bit - but for fetch months is usual. Then a rinse and repeat of glue and tape.

One of them is still going strong after 3-4 years ( maybe more ), as you see the Jolly Dog likes chewing it.

Last summer bought 3 of the lighter grade "thingies" they're doing fine too, they live at my sisters, she has two dogs, much throwing of thingies happens, in fact her collies are of the firm opinion that throwing the thingies is my raison d'être
