Rabbit down with stasis at the moment. Been nearly 48 hours. Our other one had it for 3 days and pulled though so fingers crossed. Took him to the vets yesterday and again this morning where he stayed all day but they struggled to get any food down him as well.. Got hourly feed duties and meds for him tonight and return trip to the vets in the morning. frown

Any update on the stasis?

We took our new arrival to the vets about 10days ago where they said he had the classic signs of being a caged bunny. His teeth are overgrown at the back due to poor diet (lack of hay grinding his teeth down) and they found an absess on his lower jaw. They said the two are most likely connected as one of the upper teeth has grown quite long and sharp and will be rubbing on his lower gum when he eats and has caused a sore and swelling. We were told to massage it every day to assist in it draining and given a course of anti biotic to reduce the swelling.

That seemed to work very well and the vet is happy enough that it doesnt need any further treatment for the absess at the moment. He's going under tomorrow for some dental work to grind down his teeth and that should make things a lot more comfortable for him. Along with the correct diet and some care he should be absolutely fine.

Hes really come out of his shell though. He runs around the living room a lot now and is constantly exploring. He only really goes into his cage for the toilet, food and drink. Hes clearly much happier and does quite a few binkies which is nice to see.

He also likes to watch the Puinnea Gigs

Hes back at home now. Had the work this morning and they kept him in all day. My wife collected him when she finished work at around 5.

He was a sleepy for a bit, but hes running about as normal now and eating hay etc. He also devoured some spring greens faster than I've seen him eat them before. Whilst he was under they also flushed his tear ducts and they are dry this evening. All seems fine!

The vet did say it was likely all connected. We'll see how he gets on over the next week or two.

I spent most of yesterday evening bunny proofing the rest of the living room and putting all the cables in trunking and building a new tv/hifi stand so he cant get to any wires or behind the tv as he's getting pretty nosey!

That's great, always a relief when they come through anaesthetics okay.

So 5 days later fetch seems to be recovering this evening. Been a long week for both of us, I start work 5 am and he needs 2 meds 2 hours apart before I go to work grumpy. His ears have been shaved so he's looking a little rough.

Nice to have him back. His brother has been a missing him a little but not as much as I thought he would. Both reunited and happy.

It was a struggle to get him to feed on critical care so the vet decided to do a tooth inspection, he was a little weak so the risk with anaesthetic was pretty high, as he was weak the vets somehow managed to inspect and grind off a few sharp bits without using anaesthetic. Turned out his teeth were in good Shape and not the issue.

Been a roller coaster week. amazing how attached you get to rabbits.

That's good to hear. Hopefully he's now on the mend and I'm sure he'll be back to normal in no time. Animals look so sorry for themselves when they've had some fur shaved off. It always amazes me how quickly it grows back though.

They have really big characters for little animals and they're so entertaining to watch. We're already very fond of ours even though hes only been here for a few weeks.

It has been really nice to see him go from being a caged animal only ever fed with rabbit pellets, to being an explorative bun who loves munching on fresh hay and is being (slowly) introduced to veg/grass/dandelions.

Anyone else's rabbit super humpy at the moment? Poor Clemmy has Darwin trying to get her 100 times a day. Both of them have been done.

In anycase, here is Clemmy helping me on my new WFH desk and having a little afternoon snooze laugh

I used to love it when Ronnie flopped, it looked so serious, a sign of a very content bunny. biggrin

Our Bramble died on Saturday. He was only 5 years old; seemed fine up to then, but we found him laying in his tray. I knew straight away he’d gone. He was a lovely rabbit. RIP little fella - we loved you.

Sad to read about Bramble.

We had a flat coated retriever called Bramble. He went before his time too.

RIP

Thanks all. It’s difficult to go into his room without getting upset. He was very reserved, but we would sometimes pick him up and give him a hug. His companion, Poppy, is alone now. It’s just all very sad. Here they are in happier times:

I guess we will try to find another rabbit so she’s not lonely. There will only ever be one Bramble though.

Ah, I'm so sorry.

Yes, please do look for a new companion for Poppy. I've got a 13 year old female rabbit who is on her third husbun!

We will. Hopefully she'll get over it.

Can't help wondering if we missed some health issue with Bramble...Pfffffffffffffffff.

Don't beat yourself up about it. They can be very fragile little creatures, unfortunately, and they hide illness very well frown
