This is Blackie, we took him in last year after finding out that his owners just round the corner moved away and left him behind, we took him to the vet for a check up and it turned out he had a microchip which revealed his old address...

Well done.

Can't believe what some people will do.
I assume you checked that he had not just found his way back home? Are the old owners aware that you have him?
Yes we checked - when the vet scanned Blackie and found the chip he rang the chip company who checked their records, they rang back later saying they'd been in contact with his previous owners who said they moved away four years ago and didn't want him anymore, they simply left him behind. Between them moving away and us taking him in, he'd been hanging around in the gardens of several houses in our road, we took pity on him and took him in wink
Scum.
your phraseology is far more polite than mine censored

absolutely this weird mix of purr and other bits - as soon as we hear that it's all hands to battle-stations before the mouse/vole disappears under our (pretty much) unmovable bed etc

I'm lost for words!

That was my favourite photo I ever took of the idiot and you've gone one better in how you've captured him. Thank you so much for picking him as a subject. I'm still a bit dumfounded.
My wife is glad you like it, and would be happy to send it to you if you would like to have it.
That's incredibly generous, thank you very much Mrs Singlecoil. It wouldn't feel right though as I can't think where I'd put it in the house - it's an incredible painting and I was/am really touched that someone took time to paint Ripley - that was good enough in itself, just to see, so thank you very much for sharing it. (I hope that doesn't seem ungrateful, I'm just not the type to put a picture of a pet on the wall!).

Edit:I still keep looking at it as I can't believe how well you captured him/his poser attitude!

May I suggest an alternative?

Take Mrs S up on her very generous offer. Donate some money to Gretchen's CPL work as a thank you. Pop the pic away in storage until such time you feel you want to see it out.

Don't get me wrong, I'd selfishly love it & I'd happily pay/donate for it, but just can't imagine a time I'd hang a picture of a cat on the wall, as much as I'm in awe of it - if that makes any sense?! It would be a waste and much better appreciated by the artist themselves, even if just as part of their portfolio.

Apologies for derailment, back on track with some kittens (not mine, Mrs Bear-n's eldest)

I'll tell her, I expect she will be somewhat relieved, it's one of our favourites. We have several cat (big cats as well as domestic) paintings around the house.

If anybody would like a painting of their cat then she would be happy to do one on those terms. As she would tell you herself if she wasn't cooking our supper, she has much admiration for Gretchen's work. We use to foster for the CPL ourselves back when we had a suitable place in which to do it.

Perfect - everyone's happy. Thank you once again, Mrs Singlecoil - very special just seeing it.

If anyone has a link to Gretchen's CPL page, then I'll happily chuck in a few beers for Mrs SC's efforts that brought a big smile to my face.

I have never seen a 2 headed cat before, do they eat twice as much?
