My daughter and partner did the obligatory year out in Australia about ten years ago, and we looked after her three cats for the duration. That made five with our own ones. Willow, the meekest of rescue cats who hid under the sofa for a week when she first came home, would walk along the breakfast bar (cats on worktops not allowed but she ignored all rules) and passed our plates while we ate if not picked up and chucked off. Without breaking her stride she'd snaffled a pork chop and made off with it! Meek she may have been but she knew how to look after herself. Gretchen's moggie is well mannered by comparison.

Those paws belong to the kitten PD. Lebowski was on the worktop shouting at me for Cheese when I was preparing it. Frida and Walter at my feet. Walter is a little more fussy and prefers Chicken. Lebowski would take the whole block of Cheese if I batted an eyelid. Frida isn't fussy, but has more manners than the boys. PD thinks she can get away with anything and would happily sit on your plate if you let her!
My elderly cat Spider once stole a piece of Steak that was resting under an eye level grill and snatched a Sausage Roll from a toddler in a high chair.

I'm happy to give them treats, but for most of the month they probably eat better than we do!

The other day I worked out that on a per-portion basis, Jasper's cat food costs more than my own food.

This is not good boxedin

Years ago we had a squiffy kitty after he found my wife's Baileys!

wobble

We kept an eye on the drinks after that - but mostly find they turn their noses up at alcohol.

He needs to have company though, living area would be better as he's near you. Just leave a radio/TV on when you're not home.
Oh yeah, I meant sit with him in the box room so he can have a wander about without legging it too far.

Radios on (planet rock) and mothers been round everyday for a hour whilst we’re at work to fuss him... and FaceTime him to me laugh

Ah, as long as you transport him to and fro in the safety of the cage perhaps that might be nice for him.

In fact, is that box room available to rent? I could do with a Mum to fuss me ocassionally.

Quick question, how many in here insure their cats?

Yes. The overlord is with Petplan. Wouldn't be without it.

Petplan was the best money I ever spent. Yes I will take all the drugs for the rest of the cats life. The bill? Send it directly to petplan. Thanks. Life made simple by the correct cover.

so £12 a month for the basic cover £16 for the one that covers ongoing illness, is that the rate or is anyone getting a better deal? Not saying its expensive I'm not even sure I'm going to do it.

I have life-coverage under Petplan for both of mine. I went top end after a buddy had an £8k bill for one of his. I'd rather the piece of mind and less credit-card/savings impacting hit of a bill like that just in case.

I also have a vet-bill plan that covers regular check-ups and walk ins etc but I may get rid of that as not sure that it's giving me value for money. I got it as the cats were the first pets I've owned myself so wasn't sure how much we'd use it / how regular we'd need to go in.

I've had my cats insured most of their lives. It did get a bit silly towards the end of their lives when you find there's little that'll be covered.

My first insurance claim (Kif when he was hit by a car) was ~£350 - and he made a profit on his insurance that day. Although after a couple of years of nothing happening, it was a loss smile

Priya was also hit by a car, but hers was nearly £2,000. Her insurance definitely paid out more than I paid in (it's just a shame she got run over and killed about a year later).

We are now, though a week too late...

£14.44 I think with Petplan lifetime cover at 8k payout a year
