Our BSH Kitten had a bit of gunk in his eye when he was tiny, now he’s about 5 months old he never gets it anymore

We went to meet our kitten yesterday. He's 5 weeks old and we've named him Bear. I'm a little worried about the gunk near his left eye, it could be conjunctivitis or just a little bit of sleep. I'm sure the vet will check him out when he goes for his microchip and shots. I think we bonded, he fell asleep on me and when it was time to go home he cried and clung on when trying to put him down. frown

Pickup will be around December 18th at 14 weeks old. Breeder has promised us lots of photos, I cannot wait to bring him home!

He's just superb - enjoy!

A man's best friend is his mog.

...
I was told by the breeder ours came from came from that it's because their flat faces make cleaning difficult, I'm skeptical as I've only very rarely seen our Birman (adult female chocolate) doing any paw-over-the-face type washing. I'm sure the cat thinks "why would I bother doing it myself when I've trained my number 3 human to deal with eye bogies for me?"

He is very pretty! Ours (a Maine Coon) had similar gunk when he was a kitten, also on his left eye. Occasionally he gets a bit now at 7 years old. I think it is largely natural and nothing to worry about. When they're young they don't know to clean it regularly and when they get older you can sometimes get to them before they've done it themselves.

Unfortunately any white or cream cat shows the eye discharge more than a dark or tabby cat would. My two pure white ones often have their eyes wiped like a child, much to their disgust, by me before having their photo taken.

He also came up with Greebo...... All hells angels rolled up into one cat.
Gretchen, I did think you would call Frida "You". wink

For those who are not familiar with the late Sir Pterry's work, You is a white kitten that was given to one of the main characters and who had Greebo's measure too!

Pratchett utterly loved cats but was under no illusions about what wonderful gits they are. hehe

That’s brilliant. My kids have read his stuff but I never have. Not too late. Hmm. Maybe I need another kitten hehe

My cream coloured BSH Siamese style pattern (tan tips and blue eyes) has eye weepage. The vet says it's a tear duct blockage, meaning, I assume, the duct that drains the eye rather than the one that supplies the tears. He doesn't mind having his eyes wiped. He also has nystagmus, or rapid eye oscillation which is common in Siameses. His mum must have got out at some point as he's definitely not Siamese!

You’re all probably sick of seeing him but here’s a short video. I’m tempted to go and cat nap him and bring him home. frown

Yep! You're going to have scratches all over for a while. Kittens don't know how to control their claws in my experience.

Having started to watch some TV recently Frida has found the joys of a warm Sky box... though I'm utterly convinced she's doing it to spite me as she constantly turns the channel over then covers the sensor with her paws so I can't turn it back!

Watching the George Michael documentary tonight I was a little shocked to hear a woman faking a suicide note and querying whether it would be believed because it was typed. Having not been an avid TV watcher until recently I’m thinking I’ve missed a major news story...until I check the channel and realise Frida once again has turned the Sky box over!

This isn't my cat, but it's the cat that hangs out around the local co op and loves people, he's been known to get into cars, go into the shop and just sit outside and look for pets,

It's the only reason I choose to go to the co op over the Tesco express.

He's called Ollie and loves belly rubs and head boops

I’ve had a crappy week, virus on top of infection, admitted to hospital for a day, all on top of ten hour shifts and a busy workload. The cats have perhaps picked up on this as they’ve not left my side while I’ve been home at night.
Frida hasn’t sat on my lap since she was a kitten...so this made me smile

It wasn’t just the once either. It’s been every night for a week

PD waits on ‘her side of the bed’ for me before she gets under the duvet and doesn’t leave my side until my alarm goes off

And tonight I’ve come home and there are gifts outside my bedroom door. I think this is Lebowski as he has been bringing me a few recently

I grew up with dogs - my parents were KC registered breeders and showed at Crufts. I’ve pretty much always had dogs (bar the one outdoor cat who is now 15). Cats are a relatively late addition to my family. I’m definitely a cat person.

And I was lucky enough to catch this cat yawn from a Lynx at the weekend
