RIP Orion

Only 16 months old. Died in the vets - went for a dental and had a heart attack coming round from the anaesthetic.
He was the happiest, friendliest cat - always purring. cry

So sorry for your loss Lizzy. Trust me I know exactly how you are feeling at the moment having lost my mate Jasper last week. RIP Orion.

16 months is nothing. What an age to lose a cat.

RIP Orion

I hate dental work on Cats. Ours never seem to survive more than a few months after having it and most times they don't seem to need it. I tend to refuse these days unless I can see distress.

I'll be taking my two in for neutering tomorrow morning so i hope nothing like that happens. My boy Bob no longer sees his sister as a sparring partner but more of a love interest. Here he is having been rumbled from a new hiding place:

I’m so sorry for the loss of your fur friend LizzyD. That’s just so unfair at his age cry He passed knowing he was loved I’m sure I can take comfort from that.

RIP little Orion. May you be shining big and bright with the other hunters tonight x

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments.

We've had many cats who've had dentals and other procedures without any problems - just unlucky this time.
Orion had terrible gums which were causing pain and affecting his teeth. A leftover from being a stray and cat flu?
He had a very happy life, just much too short frown

I've got the other two 10yo monsters to keep me busy!

Loki (very absorbant!)

Both of ours have had dental work done, the younger one just last week in fact, but she's 9 now and the other one was I think 6 or 7 when he had his. I never knew that was even a possibility.

It's always a possibility when anaesthetics are used for any procedure but it's sufficiently rare that I wouldn't hesitate to allow a needed operation to go ahead.

Lucy got done too yesterday. She's less sanguine about things though

When my previous cat Milly died, I was totally heartbroken. That was back in July & I still miss her every day. After a month or so, we decided that it was time to give another cat a forever home.

This is Poppy, she's 6 & was called Lollipop before. Didn't like the name so that had to go. She was in Blue Cross care for over 220 days so has taken a while to settle in but is now getting better.
