Yes. We got her from a breeder in East Sussex.
Both parents are confirmed HCM free, so fingers crossed.

One last day in the sun

Please can I ask the name of your cat? May he/she be at peace and you too :’(
Chloe. I think having several weeks to prepare certainly made it a lot easier, so it's more a sense of sadness than grief. So used to having her around that I'm still half expecting her head to pop up from the duvet when I go upstairs, or appear at the catflap. Not to mention eating dinner without having to guard it like a hawk.
Chloe was beautiful. She just has that wise and wonderful look about her. Hope you’re doing ok x

Wow! What a nice cat you have. Here's my kitty, her name is Simba, she's 4 years old. She's very calm and soft, though sometimes she loves to scratch my sofa and other furniture. I bought a cat scratch as catademy advised and now she's doing that less frequently. What habits do your pets have by the way?

My boy scratches everything grrr!

He’s got other foibles, like rolling about asking to be fussed, then moving 3ft if you come near him.... or crying for food, only for me to find both his dishes are still half full, but that’s just cats.

Oreo's the only one with a bit of a bad habit: when he's hungry, he'll knock things off shelves. He will also try to grab your hand as you're eating (or the non-business end of a fork/knife).

Can't think of anything that Pantera or Raj does. Except Pantera does sleep next door a lot, and steals their cat's presents...

Exactly the same flavours as my GF’s two. She tells me that the animal rescue place she provides vet services at has trouble rehoming black cats (as does everywhere) as people are superstitious about them. I’ve always quite liked a black cat personally and I prefer them to pretty much all the other colours. I was always previously a “dog person”, but since getting to know her two, I’d definitely consider a cat in the future (although I don’t think my dog, Jussi, would be a fan).

GF’s ginger boy is very much a one person animal (her, luckily!) although when she’s away and I’m visiting them to feed and spend some time there, he will occasionally grant me the pleasure of stroking him. He’s sat on my lap a couple of times as well and he’s even lain on top of me when I’ve had the odd snooze. Her black cat is much more of a tart and will sit on/with anyone! They’re both the correct weight, but it’s surprising how heavy they feel when they do that “squat/sit” thing on you and the weight is being concentrated on four paws, rather than when they lie down and the weight is more spread out (physics, I know!).

I’ve only just seen this. I’ve only ever had dogs, but the first two have both been put to sleep due to age/medical issues.

It is the kindest thing we can do for our pets, but it is very hard to deal with. I can tell you though it does eventually get easier with time. It is very strange not having animals around when you’re used to them though. My GF and I don’t live together and I’ve had ten lots of surgery over the last 18 months or so, which has meant I’ve had to put my dog in kennels. When he’s at home, he will happily take himself off to another room in the flat for a snooze, but it’s a completely different “feel” to when he’s not actually here with me.

Have you had any thoughts about getting another cat?

Cats are very good at the 'little old oriental martial arts master who can make themselves so heavy that 6 burly blokes cannot pick them up' trick, especially when they don't want to move. hehe

These are 2 boys of 5. We have another black one from Cats Protection too, they are brothers and are both awesome in different ways. Then there are the 2 girls, one a beautiful grey and a gorgeous tabby. All 5 are wonderful and bloody idiots and we adore them. cloud9

I don't think you need to be either a cat or a dog person. I think being a person who looks after a pet as a family member is pretty much the definition of a decent human being. smile

I’d agree with you now. I was a long term non cat fan due to ex wife number one... and because of her, I’ve never read a single Harry Potter book or seen any of the films. Sounds odd, I know, but her liking them so much put me off them!

I’d have a cat tomorrow, but I’m in a rented flat on a fairly busy main road at the moment, as well as still having The Idiot. Neither I (nor my GF (a feline specialist vet) think cats should be restricted to being indoors.

And I refer to her black cat as “my little Ninja”! He can go from lovey-dovey to all out assassin in the blink of an eye and then back again. He’s odd, but I like him! I like them both, of course. When I go round to feed them if my GF’s away, they will both come and say hello. The black one is the more vocal of the two and we have quite some conversations! I think because he’s younger, he’s a bit more active/into things, whereas the ginger boy is happy sleeping, eating and sleeping on Mum.

That's something that is open to discussion and individual circumstances. Being restricted to indoors is better than being restricted to a pen in a cat shelter, which many of them are (there being more cats than homes available).

Not only the circumstances of the owner, there are cats who don't want to go out and others that have something wrong with them and mustn't go out.

Having 3 or so weeks to prepare definitely helped, and the more I think about how she was looking and acting leading up to it the more I think it was her time.

I definitely want another pet, but keep thinking I've been very lucky with the two I've owned, in that they've been very friendly and instantly adapted to their new home, and as I want a companion maybe I should get a dog.
