It's Caturday- Post some cats (vol 3)
Discussion
Nestle is back with vengeance.
I am obviously thrilled, and happy, but from what the vet said, worried.
The episode we had yesterday was so biblical, that it prompted me, the tightest asshole in the world, to take her to the vet out of hours. I made that decision, and stand by it. Her condition was indescribable.
The second we got there she was rushed away - blue in the mouth and gums. The vet was amazing, but - I did spend an hour pacing. The only diagnosis we got was that she was lacking in Oxygen. But nobody knows why,
This is either a one off, or a sign of an early death due to an existing condition. Sorry to be so crude but its been made clear to me by the vet. Its one or other. Tonight she has been bouncing off the walls, and returned to her former self in abundance - she is mental health! Scrapping with our 10 year old cat and going nuts, the usual kitten stuff.
We have had her for around 6 weeks, and my instinct tells me she will live. That's not an emotional response, its a genuine instinct. If she has a heart defect, she collapse again, and trust me, we are watching.
Nothing else I can say really.
Other than, having had 3 torties, i have never seen so much life and "trouble" out of a kitten. She is 120% as I type. My worry is her heart. As she grows, and has been pointed out, any defect will show, quickly.

I'm glad she's ok.
An echocardiogram and blood tests can be done by the vet to find out once and for all if there are any heart issues. We had our then 9 year old Maine Coon Ellie tested for this when she had symptoms of HCM after a heart murmur was discovered on a routine check up.
Sadly she passed away a year ago but at least she had another 18 months of a pretty normal quality of life due to diagnosis and treatment.

The spider bite is an interesting thought. Especially in a kitten.
Not much in the way of highly poisonous spiders in the UK so much on the internet is form the ROTW.
This makes an interesting read:
"In some cases, your cat may develop an anaphylactic reaction to a spider bite. This is a severe and life-threatening allergic reaction.
Symptoms of anaphylaxis include difficulty breathing, pale gums, swelling, vomiting, and diarrhea, trembling and collapse. Anaphylaxis is a medical emergency and requires urgent veterinary attention."

Interesting as the vets first words were what toxins do you have in your house - but we never discussed spiders. Lets hope it was just that. She is absolutely fine now though.
Regards to follow up treatment, they wanted me to leave here there overnight ( £800 ) and suggested the only next move was to investigate the heart by heart scans / tests at a starting cost of £1500. That would not include treatment or management however,. Obviously, all these options are no go's.
I am now trying to work out, if I can insure her. Strictly speaking, if the vet is pointing at heart, then how can we insure for anything heart related as it is pre existing. However, if this is a freak episode owing to a toxin, then we should be able to insure still - it all depends on what the vet has written down. I have also worked out I could simply register as a new cat, under the name Splodge at a different vets, but that would be fraud.

Even plug in air fresheners or Pot Pourri, diffusers? Anything you take for granted but would put away if you knew your kids would likely taste or eat it!
Lebowski was thoroughly enjoying a Lick-e-Lix this morning and being vocal about it. Yum yum yum...

Do you have any house plants? Fresh flowers?
We had some dying flowers in a vase, and have some stuff around, but she doesnt show interest in them and the vet saw images saying none of those would hurt her, only Lillies if we had them. No pot pourri. She is still fine, fully restored and back to being violent, over active and disruptive to the entire house.Gassing Station | All Creatures Great & Small | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
