My 8 1/2 yr old Weim Casper is coping well with the change... So far.

Thats reminded me. I've been doing an unhealthy amount of reading about wolf dogs, and pretty much everything I've read about them and other dogs of this type say they must be kept on the lead as prey drive is so high. Have you found this to be a challenge?
As I understand it, most dogs had the prey drive bread out of them as it wasn't convenient to have them demolishing live stock, they had other purposes. A lot of the North American 'snow dog' breeds have it in tact so they could fend for themselves rather than having to be fed.AdiT said:

She is gorgeous isn't she and I think she knows it too. As a 6 time now "rehomer" I have always been stunned at how quickly they suss out their new surroundings sand decide "yes I have definitely found a sucker here".
He'd already knocked her off that bench twice so I think she's bracing in case there was a third... and he was thinking about it.
One week today since his bachelor lifestyle got blown apart but I think he's coming around to the idea. Left them at home alone for a couple of hours for the first time today and came back to this...

Oh yup, definitely. If I am mountain biking or running she is on a stretch lead, and mostly fixed lead when hiking. Occasionally she is off-lead but after I find a quiet spot, quick check and let the labs run around and make noise before I let the wolf loose. She heels great, and will recall, but if there was livestock or deer, then she would be off. Continuously working on finding something of interest to her, then saying: "watch me", make sure she is looking directly at me, wait, then give treat and praise, continue walking, repeat. Ideally, anytime she sees something she might want to chase she will instead look at me. Works great for labs, time will tell for wolf.
