Well, Rosie the border on her walk this evening on Greenham Common, as rolled in some rather unpleasantness . It smells like cow poo . My daughter pre-warned the need of the big bucket and shampoo. Well from 50 yrds after she opened the car boot , it hit us !! She has done it before but not for a very long time. She was bucket washed and she still stank. So, she then ended up in the shower and wife and daughter scrubbed her. She has had coconut spray, but it still stinks like we have cattle in the house. So, has anyone any ideas to mask the smells. She honks. I believe ketchup masks fox poo, but urgent destink is required please smile

ketchup really does work -rub it in (with rubber gloves!) and it dissolves the poo -think its the vinegar/acidity that helps break it down then wash off with normal dog shampoo and water -works a treat. Luckily my boy had grown out of the habit now!

You have my sympathy. When our lab was young we visited some friends in Essex. Just before we left to come home we took him to a nearby park to do his business, unfortunately he found some fox poo and decided it needed to be rolled in.

We only had a bottle of water and a few tissues to get rid of the worst of it, and then a 4 hour trip back home to Poole in the middle of summer - he absolutely reeked vomit

Most dogs do it.

It must be some innate instinct to ward off predators perhaps

Come back when your dog has been rolling in a well rotted dead seal, then you can talk about smelly dogs!

One of our dogs also once actually got into the local sewage treatment works and went thoroughly enjoying himself in one of the treatment ponds, that took several weeks before the smell was gone.
