I know there are perennial threads but I wanted an emphasis on pics. I shall shortly be packing my bags and dousing petrol about the premises...

My wife's Aunt is obsessed with the threat of spiders, to the extent she has lemon peel scattered in every corner of the house, in the belief spiders don't like it (I know).

Of course, my 9-month old daughter had a whale of a time crawling around and trying to eat most of said peel...

Those who are so afraid of spiders - do you really like flies?

Found in my bathroom the other day, tried to get a pic of it on my hand but the bugger kept jumping off!

Totally indifferent to flys. Spiders on the other hand can GTFO!

Don't mind the spiders, except false widows, they can get killed to death in my house. The rest live, or live in pieces if the cats find them.

It's the lesser-spotted dry-land octopus.

Nah, just kidding. It's a spider.

Probably a male giant house spider.

Handsome, though - the silver and gold patterning is rare.

I have a hilariously arachnophobic colleague, so I emailed her this image from my porch the other day titled "seven legged tarantula of death".

Not technically in my house but thought I'd share a snap as it's quite impressive!

I look after them, never hurt them. I've a house spider who runs around in my lounge every evening. He can't half motor along when he gets into gear. My take is that he's obviously eating stuff so I'll happily leave him be. He's doing something of worth.

OP, I'd have left that one - big enough to deal with the odd fruit fly, but not big enough to cause panic in anyone with anything approximating a pair wink

humcumber - proper spider :L biggrin I'd have pitched that - but out here, on the edge of civilisation (just before the Fens start), trapping spiders needs a pint glass, and even then, you have to hover it over the beermat until Itsy (or Bitsy) pulls his feet in. I'm not talkig your average Nonic pint glass, I mean a heavy, wide mouth, dimpled pint glass. They (the spider, not the pint glass) make an audible thump if they hit my car roof or the conservatory when defenestrated...

Nah, skinny spiders aren't scary...

These black funnel web things are aggressive bds. Brush against a wall and they are out and at you!!

I read somewhere they're only in port towns (like where live in Bristol) as they've come in from Europe but are spreading fast.

Edit: Segestria florentina - Put that in Google images..... omg

WIKI Says: Originally a species of the Mediterranean region as far east as Georgia, it can now be found in most if not all British towns (for example Bristol), where they were probably introduced via seaports at least since 1845.[2] It has been found in several places in Cornwall, plymouth Bristol, Swindon, Gloucester, Ashford, Dover, Hayes, Southampton, Salisbury, Whitstable, Canterbury, South East London, Vinters Park, Maidstone, Portsmouth, Sittingbourne, Faversham,[5] Sheffield,[6] Bridgwater[7] and Newport,[8] where it prefers south-facing walls.[9] Specimens have been found in Exeter Cathedral as far back as 1890.[10][11] It has also been found in Argentina, Australia and several Atlantic islands, where it was probably also introduced.

I don't mind the little spiders but I hate these ones (we operate a catch and release outside system here)

(5p for size reference)

Tegenaria don't live outside, may as well kill the poor buggers humanely as put them outside to die anyway.

Or you could just leave them the fck alone, they're completely harmless.
