Sorry to read about George.

I love the oldies. They have such dignity.

The first few days after they go are the hardest. You will know this having had previous dogs. After some time the pain recedes and you have all tjose fabulous memories.

RIP George

I feel your pain SF, commiserations. It is the hardest single thing about owning pets. When you're ready, there are plenty of other needy boys and girls needing rescue. Talk it out, plenty of fellow dog nuts on here.

Thanks for all your kind thoughts esp the folk who have suffered the same loss recently. That to me just shows how thoughtful people can be

Anyway here is George about 2016 enjoying the sun

When we got him ,only his paws were white and his muzzle!

I think it was living with us that made him go ''grey' quick!

Just noticed he made 17, some age for a dog that size, you must have been doing something right!

This is the 2nd thread in here that has made my eyes water in a week.

Nothing will make the hurt of losing a dog better... except time. And another dog. People like us are here to care for as many dogs as we can in our lives. It's our duty. I'm with pup number 6. They've all been different and I miss all 5 of the previous ones.

I'm sorry for your loss but don't wait too long before finding another friend.

Lovely dog. smile

We have two canvas pictures up on our living room wall of the rabbits. Look them a lot and still miss them 7 and 6 years later.

Have the (git) cat now. hehe she is very good with our daughter though and keeps the local rodent population in check.

Speaking of which, our daughter wants an Alsatian(sp?) now. Never had a dog before and it won't be in the near future due to the cat.

Lads,

You are all a tonic and very thearpeutic, and helping in a way you wouldn't think possible
Went for 'The Walk' this morning and deviated a bit to take in the parts the other two liked to do.
Just stood for a while watching the three 'ghosts' running about, and had a bloody good blub.
It helped a hell of a lot

Great Councillors every one of you and i will be a regular now to help the ones that follow to get through it.

Cheers

Ron

Oh and on another post there was asmall discuusion about vet fees

My vet had a brand new Jag each year and a plate with his initials an 1

Mine is a s/h Royce with my initials and 1 but with a year suffix. ( Bought with the redundancy and it is used as a wedding car) but the runaround is a 15yr old V70 I think it is something to do with the wage packet!!

"Just stood for a while watching the three 'ghosts' running about,"

Steve Sanderson does a series of fantastic ghost dog prints.

I'm buying one myself the next time I need to make that last trip to the vets. Hopefully a few years away yet.[url]

I lost a cat when I was a kid (well, about 13) but my friend told me he had crawled under the bed (where we found him dead) to go and have a think about things. I still get a lump in my throat when I think about what he said to this day, 33 years later.

Pets eh.

I still believe that animals are a lot better than some people,

They love you unconditionally, they don't care what you look like, what you smell like, if you are grumpy, happy or sad. They will always be there for you. It takes a lot to find that in humans. In pets, it's pretty much a given.

Some people don't understand how intelligent and clever animals can be. Referring to our old rabbits again, they both had personalities and loved us, just as we loved them. We gave them more of a life than just being locked in a wooden box all day and they thrived on it.

Dogs are a different ball game. I have never had one, but family have them. My wife was brought up with Alsatians. Lovely dogs and very clever.

Funnily enough, we have only ended up with rescue pets. The old rabbits were found in a house of 20 odd where the owner had given up. The git, sorry cat, we have at the moment is a rescue from what we believe to be an abusive family. How on earth anyone can hurt an animal is beyond me.

Anyhow, back on track. George was a happy, content soul (you can tell as much from that one photo above). He had a happy life. You can't give them any more than that. You can be proud that he had a lovely little life and wherever he is now, he will be telling all of the other animals that have passed the same.

RIP George.

Lost my Springer, Banjo in May. He was only 6 but got a rare liver disease we couldnt save him from despite everything we tried. The attached pic came up on my timehop today from 4 years ago. He's in his element in the river setting course to intercept some ducks.

This has set me off again but i can assure you it gets easier . You never forget them. Moments like the pic that I like to remember him by.

Beautiful, but I wish I hadn't looked at that just before I needed to meet people at work.

Chronos

Seeing the pic of your dog reminded us of Henry, a water lab if ever there was one. We holidayed in Scotland each year and he loved going to Loch Lubnaig north of Callandar, once he was in collecting sticks we threw in,we couldnt get him out, and if anyone is up that way, the Lade Inn just south of the lake is a very dog friendly pub and brew their own beer. Lade Back and Lade Out spring to mind and good food as well
