Just purchased this tank. 6ft. It has a pump but do i need a filter. New to all of this. Have 6 fish in at the moment.
They are quite an old fashioned design, but still fairly effective, however they do need maintenance and being at the bottom of a 6ft tube, I'm not sure how easy that is going to be.

This is my son's project (with a little help from me).
We just managed to get the tank cycled in time to add some fish before the lockdown. We've added 5XChilli Rasbora and 5XCelestial Pearl Danios.
For a new tank we are quite pleased with it! There is some growth on the wood which we will clean off in due course. At some point we will add some cherry shrimp. All plants are real and appear to be growing well. We are going to start adding some fertiliser and liquid carbon to really get it going though.
Two questions;
- How on earth can I take good pictures of fish?
- How do I stop trying to work out how to fit in a bigger tank somewhere?

Looks great - I'm a big fan of the flex. Have one at home which my better half has taken over as she's got more into fish keeping thanks to me.
As for the second question - you don't!
I'm now up to three tanks at home, and I'm perpetually trying to figure out how to get a nice 300-350l shallow reef fitted somewhere.

How to take photos....
Two schools of thought - invest in a decent camera and various techniques as detailed in this article - https://aquariuminfo.org/photographs.html
Alternatively, switch on Burst Mode on the iPhone or Android, and hope you catch something decent.
Then spend an hour deleting millions of near identical blurry images.
Or just put all tech to one side, and just watch them for an hour.

I tried option 2 and have taken loads of equally blurry photos. Not one single one was identifiable as a fish! I then tried option 1 playing around with our compact camera in manual focus and got this...
Along way from being even vaguely good but at least you can see it is a fish and work out the species!
Much room for improvement!!
Help!
I have four rosy barbs in my tank.
Last week one of them started doing weird ‘spasms’, rapidly whirling round in circles, tumbling, completely out of control then resting on the gravel for a bit before going back to normal.
I put him into a shallow hospital tank and he still does this behaviour but not as much.
Yesterday I noticed two of the other barbs have started doing the same thing!
I don’t know what sets off this behaviour but it seems completely uncontrollable movement before they go back to normal for maybe hours before I see it again.
Anyone heard of this behaviour before? Not sure what could cause this. Google is inconclusive.
Water numbers are fine and no other fish are behaving weirdly.

Quick google of rosy barbs - which is why I asked the question - gives their preferred temperature range as 18-22 deg.
Be worth lowering the temp of the hospital tank to see if this has any effect.
Any idea how old the fish are?
More googling 'barbs erratic swimming for short periods' gets the following on several websites:
"Potential Problems
A water quality problem will affect fish behaviour and can be shown by clamped fins, reduced feeding, erratic swimming and gasping at the surface. Immediately test the water if any of these symptoms are shown."

Is the hospital tank water from the main tank or made up fresh?
