So far got

10 danios 5 leopard 5 zebra
2 hillstream loaches which when they appear are great to watch
6 cherry barbs

If it's tropical, I've found (in my house at least) that the ambient temp is enough to keep it going without the heater being used, maybe we have a warm house. Temp currently at 25 degrees C, the light tubes get hot too.
I assume you still have a heater in there to keep it at a stable temp as the house will chill at times and lights will be off at night?
I do.

Never needed to use it though, but one is there ready to go if required.

Here’s a pic of my little slice of the ocean. Think it’s time to trade the Malu nem in for something a little smaller as it’s taking up an awful lot of ( the already limited ) real estate.

Isn’t it just on a thermostat?

I don't have it plugged in, unless I need it. (which I haven't yet)

I learnt early on that in my own case, they just were not needed, ambient temperature falls in the range suitable for the fish, the heater had then would just get the water gradually hotter and hotter.

I'm not worried about night time cool down, as the same thing happens in the wild, the water wont stay a steady 25 degrees night and day.

Time to do some messing around with tanks. I want to retire the 206 on the planted tank because it’s been problematic lately. I have a new 407 which is best placed for the cichlid tank and the 306 from the cichlids will go on the planted. Retaining media where possible with the tank it’s on, because the water chemistry is pretty different between them.

That was more of a pain in the arse than expected - the new filter takes different diameter pipes, so I had to rip out the old stuff (corner unit, fiddly as hell) and the dead filter really was dead - I’ve been away, and it stopped working long enough that it reeks of H2S. So media redistributed, connections redone on both tanks. Should be fine.

You can often see the fry through the belly just before she is about to pop.

Omg, all in one go? Never heard of that many.

When I had a shop, I once had a female guppy die and you could see the fry inside, I gently cut her open and many of the fry lived.

My aquarium has gradually become less and less of a display and more and more of a frag farm!

New filter is working well, clean of the glass and the light unit and it’s looking better.

So it appears that my two Amano shrimp are a breeding pair!

Unfortunately it is very tough to rear the young in captivity but I’m considering having a go...
