Just back from a walk in the park and mildly irritated again by a series of dog owners.
Bit of a back story, I do a lot of running and walking, often in/thru parks and pedestrian areas.
I have had my fill of dogs and their owners. Not least from their reluctance to clean up after their prize pooches.

Anyway, today I took the baby out to the park for some fresh air before he goes to bed.
Sitting on a park bench with him on my knee, minding our own business as a series of dogs and their owners pass.
Most of the dogs are off lead and come over sniffing around us. I position my leg each time to provide some distance from dog and baby. This does not go down well with the owners. Then I notice a fight between 4 dogs about 60 yards away. When they are all separated one set of owners come up towards us, two dogs off lead, as they near it is clear the dogs are coming in close and so i lift my foot to stop them. The owner says 'no need to lift your foot, mate' in an offended/pissed off manner. So I said, 'i don't know your dog and after that performance down there you should have them on a lead, besides i'm not taking any risks with a baby'. Anyway both ladies waddled on, no response.

Have had various episode like this over the past few months and its becoming an annoyance. Also out running owners often make no attempt to control their dog and they often cause a trip hazard.

What is it with dog owners thinking that it is ok for their pets to get in close to slabber and sniff others and to pose a danger to babies?

Im increasingly finding the majority have no consideration for others and their attitude stinks.

While sitting on a bench after a run the other day I observed a pooch stting. The owner looked like the type that would never pick it up so I observed him pull out the phone and distract himself for a while then walk on. I called him out and he says 'you know what, mate, I'll get it on the way back, and sure there are no bins along this tow path and I cant let it stink out my car on the way home'. And on they went.

A dog old fashioned dog warden would be wonderful around our local park/area.

Yeah... babies are quite irritating if you don't like them too.

Agreed, however this will soon be full of dog owners saying you're wrong.

ETA. Don't get me started on dogs in pubs.

I don’t know any entitled dogs or their owners.
Did you wait to see if he came back Andy picked the poo up?

You need to go to a better class of park. Dog fights indeed.

At what point was your son in danger again?

Our local football pitch is pretty unusable due to it basically having 1 pile of dogpoo per square metre. The number of owners who clean up after their dogs is a minority.

I've been a dog owner all my life and the OP is spot on - too many pet owners don't take the responsibility they should.

Dog and cat owners must be responsible and ensure that their pets not only are safe, don't leave a mess but also present no fear at all to others - just because someone knows their pet is friendly is of no comfort to someone who does not know or has a phobia.

So at what point was the baby in any danger?

Why wasn’t you baby in a peak, surely if you are that worried about dog attacks?

Or let me guess, fine for the baby to be out but all dogs must be on a lead ...

I do hate children, always ruins my day seeing them, horrid little things.

That's exactly the attitude I hate, it's always dog owners banging on about how their dog is a friendly one an just wants a kiss/cuddle.

I'm with the OP on this one, keep the thing on a fecking lead, not everyone wants the filthy bds climbing all over you an I absolutely cannot stand it when owners refuse to pick up the crap.

And they don't urinate in public when they have had a few too many.

Im a dog owner and I find it irritating. Mine are never off a lead and are trained to sit at my side if a person walks past us.

But the amount of people who just let their dogs run riot all over the place does my head in, especially when they run over to mine barking and growling, only to be met by the usual owners response "they aren't usually like this"

My mate had his dog in the pub earlier. It stinks of dog, pisses on the floor when it gets excited and constantly jumps up on you for attention. Incredibly annoying for me and he,like most dog owners just can’t see it.

Dog lovers and non dog owners will never agree...it is just a massive gulf...nobody is right.

My friend shares an ice cream with her dogs....me, I want to wash my hands after begrudgingly stroking them.

Would rather share a pub with dogs than kids any day of the week.
