Entitled dog owners

There is no need for anyone to have a dog unless it’s a working dog, guide dogs, sheep dogs etc.
But people get them as pets to sit around their house, go for a walk and eat. What sort of a life is that for an animal.
This view won’t go down well on here because owners seem to think a pet dog is akin to a human to human relationship which they won’t accept it isn’t.
I don't think it'll go down well because it's an ill thought out argument, in which you generalise about what people think about their pets, despite ( and this is a pure guess) not owning one.But people get them as pets to sit around their house, go for a walk and eat. 95% of people on here don't need more than a Nissan Micra or a Transit van.
And yet there are subforum upon subforum of exotic machinery on this website alone.

Why not transfer this thread to the Lounge and get a more balanced set of views instead of leaving it in a forum populated by dog lovers.

Any dog that get near me gets a shoeing.
LOL, OK hard man. Of course it does. blueg33 said:
For the sake of balance I am not keen on dogs and their owners of babies and their owners, but worse than both are 5 year olds that run around restaurants etc and their parents that allow it.
Oh I’d definitely cave the head in of one of those things with a rock/pepper grinder, no doubt. ben5575 said:

LOL, OK hard man. Of course it does. But that's not the point. People should be able to go about their business in public without being approached by dogs.

I'm not sure that's in dispute? CCCS said:

About a quarter of the population like dogs enough to own one at the moment. Not convinced that many of the remaining 75% are dog-hating weirdos. singlecoil said:

LOL, OK hard man. Of course it does. It boils down to how much you want to avoid being bitten again. I had no way out of the situation on my bicycle, and there was no way i was going to turn my back on a snarling beast. So the only option my instinct came up with was "make myself big, make lots of VERY angry noise, and chase the dog off". At that point there was no owner/walker in sight so it really was a "me or the dog" situation.
Dependent upon the breed and the dog's nature this might not work with another animal, but it worked with this one. It went around in circles trying to avoid a kicking, with it's tail between it's legs. And when it's indignant owner finally turned up, it hid behind their legs. In a perfect example of entitlement by dog owners, my (entirely truthful) claim that it bit me was dismissed as melodrama, and I was threatened with having the police called on me. After threatening the owner with violence similar to that which I'd tried to mete out on their dog, I calmed down a bit and offered to call the police myself, and wait for them to arrive. After all, I had the dog's DNA and toothmarks in my shoe, and bruising on my foot. The only thing that had prevented the spilling of blood was a carbon fibre sole and a hefty rubberised upper on the shoes. Unsurprisingly the bravado dribbled out of the dog owner(s) and they melted away back into the woods from whence they came, and I continued on my bike ride on the BRIDLEWAY where I should have been safe from random animal attack.
If you think that I'm just being "all Billy big-bks" about it? Not so. I'd never choose to take on a dog in a fight, not with all those damned teeth and claws. But if one picks a fight with me, a fight is what it is going to get...

I'm not laughing, I was attacked by a GSD last year. Fortunately the owner was able to drag it off.. If I'd had a weapon to hand I would have used it without hesitation.
"Laugh" comment not aimed at you, but at CdG's "LOL" comment. Unless you've been attacked by a dog, in the back of beyond, with no visible source of assistance, then I'd suggest it's impossible to know just how simultaneously terrified and aggressive it's possible to become in the blink of an eye. It's almost like an 'out of body' experience. I certainly didn't choose to act that way, it was entirely instinctive. I've had almost the exact same experience as yellowjack and it was amazing how quick the (unknown to each other) dog owners all bandied together against me, the victim. I've also had a few (meaning 3-4 of varying seriousness) incidents involving our eldest when she was a lot younger and it is amazing how protective a parent can become in the blink of an eye, and how lackadaisical some dog owners can be under those same circumstances. Wouldn't hurt a fly. Just playing. Loves kids. fk off. When your dog is eye level to my kid and growling or barking, or chasing them, there is no "just playing" only immediate threat.
