She has a mountain to climb bless her but she is starting to show her character & slowly coming out of herself.

Starting to love the garden & all the smells & sensations it has to offer, probably never been used to exercise. Sadly it seems she's got an allergy to something & has had to visit the vets due to nibbling, Westies are notorious for allergies but hopefully we can get on top of it as she's having to wear the cone of shame a lot.

Still scared of most things & won't let anybody approach her, she will come to us sometimes, especially if Arlo is there, she is learning to rely on him. She has a natural curiosity which is helping to overcome her fear, loves treats too which helps & is now eating well.

She is a little thief, especially fabrics & paper!

She is such a lovely dog, 3wks with us & I couldn't imagine being without her, currently fast asleep in her new, warm & very comfy bed!

We also applied to Cairn rescue but no dog became available.
Do not forget that a Westie is a Cairn with anothr breed name. BUT Westies have the problem that comes with breeding.
Sadly ALL rescues come with baggage. My little JRT/Yorky came with baggage. But love and attention gets over thir little ( and more major) baggage.

Cheeky little lady has decided she likes the sofa now, and cardboard tubes such as empty loo rolls & kitchen roll.

1st time I've got the DSLR out.

She is looking good.

Our first dog was a rescue collie. It was only when we acquired a retriever that she took massive steps forward.

Having Arlo must be a great help

Lucky bloke- after Shona, I'd have loved to taken in one of these.

Enjoy, as she will take over your life. She is called a West Highland Terrier, but her heritage is from the Cairn Terror breed. ( I said Terror, as they are Terrors). But loving terrors. And there's a disease- that's infectious. Be it Cairn or Westie, thy infect you with their terriorisation. My first memory of a dog is my little pal ,who was a present from my Cairn breeding aunt. An two month old cairn PUP. 70 years on ,I cannot resist the gaze of a Highland terrier, be it Cairn/Westie/ Scottie.

She's obviously starting to feel more confident, she was an absolute nightmare yesterday, stealing & chewing anything she could (chewed the labels off 2 electrical cables without chewing the cables), been a little bit better today!

At the moment she's on the floor next to me chewing a bone, 1st time she's chewed something she's allowed hehe scrub that, she's up to mischief again...

Must try her harness on & then see how she copes with going out to explore the big, wide world...

Next problem- they are born gardeners- my little lady almost dug up a concrete slab when a Toad decided to find a home underneath. Those big front paws are built for digging. My last lass also had a like of finding a patch of bare earth and making a bed to sun herself in in summer ( She was an ex puppy farm dog though). All Cairns ( and as Westies are just white Cairns) were bred to dig out vermin. And given half a chance they will dispatch them efficiently. But given the right upbringing they can be lapdogs. First rescue I had saw himself as this - a 12.5KG very large dark Cairn ,who whought he was a pup, and wanted to lie baby fashion on my lap. I took him home. He came, he saw and he took over.
But when the give you that innocent look - all is forgiven.

We've had success with a couple of different diggers in giving them areas of sand they can harmlessly dig in.

For those wondering, th little lady in my last post was rescued after being found tied to a supermarket step. She's obviously been a discarded breed bh. For the six years I owned her- the last place she wanted to stay ( even on my knee) was outside a supermarket. The coat shown on the photo was gained after a lot of hardwork by groomer and the choice of food. The spirit was never broken.
These days ,I'v got a very frightned little lady.
She is coming round, but she's showing signs of having problems. If you rescue- you have to contend with baggage, and return the dog to society.

We took on an ex breeding/show Shiba Inu from Digs trust in May
They said they knew nothing about him apart from he was about 5 but some detective work found his full story. Shows, 7 (registered) litters and binned off when replaced with a new stud dog
Character wise he was very shy & nervous and it’s been a long road and he is so much better, he doesn’t like other dogs apart from female Shibas ( naturally as he is a retired sex worker )
He is wonderful and wouldn’t change a thing about him, it’s been more about us adapting to him than the other way
