Adore Viszla. Think one would go well with our 6yo German Shepherd/Border Collie cross...

Question - if raised from pup with cats, are they a breed you can trust with cats in the home when older?

Tim0409, your pup looks far too cute!

Good friends of mine got their Viz about 24 months ago, it's still bonkers and drove them to the edge of sanity when it was a pup.

Good luck, you're gonna need it......

Having a Viz x Dobe, I hear you. As for are they OK around cats, yes, we have two cats, and they live fine along side him. The only thing is that Wilson can be playful with them, and they don't want it. He has received a few swipes!

Lovely pup. We have a Weimaraner, which is essentially the same dog in metallic laugh and he's bonkers.

The 'separation anxiety' never really went away but they're very intelligent - we discovered via the house cameras that as soon as we're out of earshot he just settles down. He's also quite happy to take himself into another room but is an absolute shadow if we dare to go anywhere.

Enjoy. They're very bright and super fast (and enjoy racing you!).

They're known as velcro Vizsla's for a reason. Our old Weim never left dad's side.

Let us know when you take delivery! Ours has really grown in the last few weeks, and has (thankfully) calmed down a bit in the evenings. He managed to pick up a parasitic infection so has been a bit under the weather but he was back on form today. We live next to a beach and woods, and he absolutely loves running/leaping about in the dunes; the last few weeks has seen him start running around really fast which is great to see. All in all he is shaping up to be a great dog; I was perhaps less sure than my OH about the whole dog thing but I have become really attached to him recently! I've even agreed to sell our Suzuki Jimny as he absolutely hates it (the ride isn't the best in the back) and buy a more practical car!

He looks great. We lost our old boy, Levi, (who would have been fifteen years old if he'd managed another ten days), on the 10th of this month.

Serendipity has bought this chap into our lives though - say hello to Zazu, arriving 10th March...

Thanks. Not looking forward to the journey back, but it’s got to be done. Should be back home by 15:00.
This will be our third Viz, I’ve forgotten all the bad bits about new pups!

How is your boy doing?

He is doing really well, thanks. We seem to have got into a good routine and he is sleeping through the night although he is very definitely not a morning dog! He is still a bit mad for 30 minutes in the evening when he is overtired but apart from that he is great. We are always getting comments on how calm he is for a Vizsla as he is quite happy to sit around in cafes etc without causing any bother. My wife has just got in from his final puppy training class......

He loves the beach!

This, is a great thread.

I really like Vizslas . . . we very nearly got one, but all the puppies had gone, so we ended up getting a Ridgeback, which has very similar colouring.

When I retire, I'll have a Ridgeback and a Vizsla . . . and perhaps, a few other dogs too.

I'll look out for your Vizsla, next time we're on the beach, up in North Berwick - a great part of the world, although a long way from where we live in sunny Shropshire.

That's a lovely dog that you've got - thank you for showing him on this forum.

Freddie's a handsome boy!

I can't believe just how small Zazu is at present. He traveled home well, only one small wee on a towel that we'd bought just for the purpose in two and half hours in a strange car. Bit of a howl and I spent most of the night up with him on Tuesday, but he went overnight in his crate with just a few occasional whimpers last night.

Poppy is still very unsure about this thing that is getting all the attention, but she'll come round. Trying to make sure she's still getting plenty of fuss, but a puppy Viz is just too damn cute!

Glad to hear they calm down ! We’re one week in. House training going pretty well, and he’s a sitting machine but the zoomies are hard work. He also hasn’t really settled down at night so we’re all walking around like zombies hehe

Here he is. Meet Laszlo.

I remember it well; we were up every two hours (at least!!) Your pup is lovely.

Here is Freddie today on his way into Edinburgh on the train; he is so unbelievably calm when he is out and about, although the first thing he did when we left the station was do a poo in the middle of a busy road!

Nope, Carlisle.

He's been good so far, are you crating Lazlo overnight? It makes a huge difference, Zaz has gone through the night every night so far after staying up with him on the first day home.

Yes, we have him in a cage which he likes. He's getting up 2-3 times a night though. Goes to bed about 10 then up at 1-2 then again at 5 then sleeps through to 7.30. Any tips ? Sounds like you cracked it straight away !

I wish I did. First night I stayed up with him and lay next to his cage, other than that I take him out for a quick empty at between 11 o'clock and midnight, pop him in the crate and sod off to bed. He might fall asleep straight away or yozzle for ten minutes, but then he's good until about 6 am.

Hopefully it'll get longer as he grows, because I'm not cut out for late nights and early mornings!
