Jake, Luna & Tess
Jake & Tess were litter mates and are 10 years 10 months old, Luna we got last September and she's 11 months old
I hope this is OK to post here, but we had to have Tess put to sleep last Monday and I'm having a bit of a tough time, She had Dementia and has been slowly declining over the last few months, to the point where she was pacing round in circles, having to be taken out to the toilet and if we didn't show her where her food and water was she'd forget where the water bowl was or forget where we had just put her food down for her.
She'd also lost most of her sight and both things together meant she had no quality of life anymore, the things she liked doing and we liked doing with her she could not do anymore.
I sat with her whilst the vet put her to sleep and held her in my arms as she slipped away. She was a very kind and gentle dog, as much as she liked chasing a ball, swimming, running and playing, she also liked nothing better than sitting on the sofa with any available human for cuddles.
I know we did the right thing for her as she declined over the last few weeks and she was not going to get better and to keep her hanging on was not fair on her, and I know we have the other two who are a great source of comfort and fun, but I miss her.
I want to remember her like this at 3 years old posing for a picture in the evening summer sun

Sorry to hear that, it's never easy. She looks beautiful.
We lost two dogs within two weeks last year and that was really tough.
Benny was the second to go and I'd had him from a pup. He was 15 and the last few years had been hard for him. 3 protruding discs first which affected his mobility and then dementia on top of that. We were getting toward the stage to having to let him go but a splenetic rupture kind of sealed the deal.
All the best to you.

Are you a fan of VFFs?
I've been wearing them for years and have many pairs - most of my friends have stopped taking the micky now. Mostly.
New to them TBH. Got a set of new unused V-Trek from ebay to try and liked them. Only thing was, after 3 months the soles started to come apart. Bought the V-Trails you see there last week. Same size, but seem tighter. Great for walking Otto on the beach and in the fields.I've been wearing them for years and have many pairs - most of my friends have stopped taking the micky now. Mostly.

Sorry for your loss , she looked a beautiful dog ! It’s been a couple of months passed since we had one of ours out to sleep and i know it’s a cliche but it does get better. Just think of all the good times. Jake, Luna & Tess

Been there last April- worst Anniversary present of my life. Shona had developed rear end problems. Most likely spinal, but as she had had problems with anaesthetic in past few months, so an op to sort out her problems WAS NOT an option. I watched her crawl across the rear garden and look into my eyes. That look said it all "we've had a good life together- PLEASE end my suffering and discomfort NOW". I watched her look as the vet did what he had to do, and her last look at me was "thank you". Strange, but Shona was a Cairn terrier and we've noticed things in the house.
We've rescued a little lady, but she sleeps on the sofa, with downstairs door shut. . Shona could never get up there, but she could get up on the bed . But at night ,swimbo has felt a small dog on the bed. And Lexi, our little rescue will not leave the house without emptying the plate of milk she asks for and leaving her plate of food empty. Lexi is one of these dogs who fear being left, but she's so comfortable in her bed or on the sofa.
Many years ago, my dad had a poodle ,who loved to sleep under his writing Bureau. After dad passed on, I rescued this Bureau. First rescue I had felt comfortable under it. Shona had no place to go. lexi can go anywhere, but her bed under the Bureau is her favourite place for calm.
Shona - could you resist her magic
Lexi- she came bouncing out of an RSPCA cage, saying, "pick me, pick me, I've picked you, and she's my dog from daylight till she snuggles up to my back in the middle of the night. ".

Yeah I wondered where the non rottie colours were coming from, that's a cool mix! Should be a great guard dog! Met both parents and they are of lovely temperament from a loving home so hopefully all goes well.
Will keep everyone updated with photo spam.
