Anyone got any good tips for building recall?
Our 15month Cockapoo decides when he wants to come back. Decided to go for a wander in the local building site next to the field this morning.
He did come back, but only when he decided too.
Tip 1 Work on it every day for just a short periodOur 15month Cockapoo decides when he wants to come back. Decided to go for a wander in the local building site next to the field this morning.

Tip 2 Reward a return, find what they love (hot dog sausages worked for me) but always make a fuss and don't always put on the lead this just reinforces their reluctance to return if everytime they come back they are put on a lead and the fun stops.
Tip 3 take them somewhere where a fence will limit their wanderings and just leave them to explore without trying to call them back after about ten minutes call them back reward them then let them wander again, repeat.
Tip 4 never get angry with them, it only makes the dog reluctant to come back, If you haven't time to allow them to have a good wander keep them on a long lead but still call and reward when you want them back
Tip 5 If you feel you are not making progress get help from an expert. Sadly the problem is usually YOU and the expert will help train you to communicate better with your dog.
I didn't get a picture as he wasn't a dog I know and was being held by a young girl, but we were walking across the precinct at Locks Heath and met a Frenchie waiting outside Costa coffee, I knelt down to give him a fuss and he set about climbing inside our cool bag we use for shopping!!! He was bloody hilarious, snorting and grunting stopping for a quick ear rub back to rooting around in the bag!! The girl was mortified, I was rolled up and Mrs Bobbers was just stood there laughing!!! He was great!!!
Took a treat from Logan this morning and temporarily put it up on the side.
He’s been grumbling all day about it. I swear this dogs vocabulary is huge. I tell him to take a look and he does. He never did it until I said it. He won’t go up on the sides uninvited.( unlike jean)
Vids a bit dark for some reason.

Rocco is so adorable! Is he getting a little on the cuddly side though? Or is it just my computer screen resolution?
Yeah he is a bit, I think a combination of winter being too cold for longer walks (he refuses to walk for long if too cold... if there is snow on the ground he will literally pee on the doorstep and want back inside!) and a change of his food has made him a bit more cuddly than before
He is now on a stricter diet with the new food and now that the sun is shining again out for longer walks too, so should be sorted out soon.

Lazermilk, I showed your photos of Rocco to a Frenchie-owning friend and she was worried that the dear little chap's claws are perhaps rather in need of a trim?
They are a bit, again I think the lack of longer walks over winter hasn't been wearing them down so much as normal, both he and I hate cutting them as they are so dark you cant see through properly, so I am always wary of cutting them too short, he hates it being done too which doesn't help!Edited by nickwilcock on Sunday 16th February 22:29
I was actually looking online at those dremel type tools for grinding down dogs nails to see if this would be easier or less stressful for him than cutting them, has anybody used these?
