I was driving back to Uni the other day, it was drizzling slightly and I was on a dual carriage way with a 70mph limit. I was stuck behind some a**e with a caravan, going between 55 and 75mph.

Going down a hill and round a bend, I went to overtake him at 75, and pulled in front of him, then set my cruise control back to 72.

Just as I went round the bend, I saw a camera van and instinctively put on the brakes - I was going about 65mph when I passed him, but I noticed a red light in the rear window blink as I was right next to it.

I know it’s me being paranoid, but why do you think it happened? Reckon they were catching the guy behind me or is that just how they work?

Normally I’d never worry about doing 72 then 65, but I’m just thinking cause of the drizzle they could be dicks and give me something like inappropriate speed - but it had just started raining and my auto wipers were on intermittent, just to give an idea of conditions.

What do y’all think? Idk why but I woke up at 3am worrying about it 😂

You were doing a max speed of 75mph when the limit was 70?

If i have read that correctly, you have literally nothing to worry about.

the one I was got by earlier this year according to the website that showed you how it worked used a laser perhaps that was what you saw ? I was also amazed at the range of the device much longer than I expected.

I'm not sure there is an offence of inappropriate speed. Camera van will only be doing speeding. Even if you were going at a real 75 not a speedo 75 you are not going to be getting a ticket.

Could be caravan man who can only do 60 though.

The red light you saw was likely the "night vision"/ infra red from the camera, you can also see it on average speed cameras at night.

I think OPs issue is more about an ‘arse’ in a caravan driving close to its 60 limit.

It's so easy to get paranoid about these things isn't it and then have to wait for 2 weeks! But I'm sure you've nothing to worry about. It made me smile about how times have changed - when I drove back to uni in my day I didn't have cruise control, 75mph was about the top speed of my car and there were no speed cameras to worry about smile
