Just bumping this to ask of any owner experience tales to tell.

Thinking of gettng a dog or two come Spring, so would like to know how Shibas get on with other dogs, what they're like to live with, are they as stubborn ad people suggest etc. Breeders to recommend or avoid.

Cheers. smile

I got my Shiba pup a few weeks ago. He's now just over 5mths. Everything they say is true. You don't own a Shiba, the Shiba will always try to own you. Bossing it has helped a lot, getting it into routines and socialised. Yesterday he did the beach and sea for the first time and played with dogs 4x his size no issue. Very polite to other dog owners and he likes small humans too. If he doesn't like something he'll let you know. I feed him mainly raw with some dry kibble for his teeth. Can do a variety of commands, working on off leash now. He picks up everything quite quick but he doesn't work for free. Still teething so will chew things, puppy pads get destroyed but he's been great so far.

Or they ignore everything you ask, and are stubborn to a degree you can’t imagine., fussiest eaters imaginable and anti social in as far as mixing with dogs & strangers
Or to sum up, they’re all different

They all are different and mines personality has changed quite a bit since I got him. Was very shy and nervous at the start, now is quite adventurous, although still doesn't like people in my house, fine if he's in other houses. You do have to boss them though as at time they get stubborn or do something unexpected. Training can go well for a few days then he could lapse so you have to go back to go forward again. This is probably dogs generally but my Shiba is my first ever dog. Oh and prepare for fur everywhere.

Mines not. With other Shibas it may look aggressive play but that's how they are. He's really good with other dogs. Loves to play, especially with bigger dogs.

Think yours is still only a pup, that can change a lot as they mature, the fact you have socialised it is a good thing though!
