Apologies if not quite the right thread.
We have the “usual “Rutland battery connected to a marine type battery for the electric fencing for her horses but my wife has seen the Gallagher range of solar batteries that do both.
Has anyone used these and if so what model number is recommended ?
There is a 20 model which seems to tick the boxes.
Thanks.

Yes we have a Gallagher. It’s very good and has worked all winter . It froze a couple of times so could not turn it off but it’s been excellent

This week may well see BOTH horses sold on to make way for a single, more focussed horse. Back into the minefield of budget horse sales / buying. At least with cars you can remove and replace bits that wear out smile

So I've posted on this thread a few times about the Goddaughter who over the years has caused a fair amount of my hard-earned to end up in the coffers of Le Mieux but yesterday made it all worthwhile for me.

You see she's 19 now, an adult, away at University.
Never having been a traditional teen, she eschewed the "normal" student party lifestyle in shared flats, instead taking a private rental of a small studio flat in Cheltenham centre to ensure that she was able to bring Disney, the horse that she loves and works so hard with up to Uni with her..

This is Disney, 7 years old, 16.2h of thoroughbred stupidity - as likely to spook at a bright coloured roadsign as he is to not bat an eyelid at a boyracer passing him by inches on one of their daily sessions.

For a couple of years prior to the move to Cheltenham, Disney lived out in all weathers, in a poor quality field with no stable, no running water etc and my Goddaughter was determined to improve his lot once she was able to.

Accordingly yesterday I went to Cheltenham to help her put the finishing touches to his new turnout paddock - actually split in two to allow some grass recovery time (hopefully)

It doesn't look like much compared to some of the previous postings on here, but this turnout is "attached" to a proper yard, where he has his own stable, an arena to use, water, electricity and she has fantastic friendly support from the other people who keep their equine lives there.

All of this is funded entirely by herself from the (near enough) full-time job she works alongside the Uni course.

To say I'm proud of her is an understatement and seeing how proud she is of the life she's building is a wonderful thing.

I'm not the biggest of animal lovers generally and I was skeptical of the benefits of horses in her life when they first came along... yesterday I had to eat my words a little.

I hope that all on this thread who are funding their children through a horsey-life have a great a payback as I'm now getting, they truly can be tonic for a troubled soul.

As an aside all - we've been drawn to a FB group where a fairly helpful lady helps with Q&A on land management

Anyone got any example of a small (ish) muck spreader like this one?

https://www.millcreek.co.uk/p/ground-drive-spreade...

- We think this can be pulled by a tractor, our pick up but maybe our 18hp lawn tractor.

Just interested if anyone has anything similar

Saw a similar one for sale on FB in the above group recently and people said it was good and successful.
This was listed under £3k I think.

O/T
I tried to make our borrowed harrow in to a combo muckspreader / harrow with some pallets. Mark1 was mildly successful, room for improvements but a reasonable way to make this work together.

Thanks for that. We are likely to push the button on one of these as we don't have too many horses and this is a practical solution rather than paying someone to come and spread it or take it away.

wow - a lesson there for many student and rightly a proud moment.

My daughter (14) crashed in to a 1.2m solid cross country wide fence 2 weeks ago - horse is ok ish and box rest - pain killers and physio plus vet...daughter not so good with a pretty bad concussion, broken shoulder, cracked sternum and just off to see if her elbow is also broken.

She has been training hard for the international tetrathlon team for the pony club as she has a Royal Windsor entry...she is very upset.

Ouch sorry to hear that -I hope both ( but particularly your daughter ) recover as quickly as possible.
Young (er) bones do recover quite quickly in the scheme of things and actually " being upset " for missing the RW is a good sign that she's already showing no issues in getting back in the saddle.

Thanks...yes, she would have gotten back on the very next day if we had allowed her...raring to go and keeps telling us she can still go to RW but I expect she won't be ready.

That’s fantastic, supporting herself and her horse whilst going through Uni is certainly an achievement. Hopefully (but unlikely) horse will appreciate the efforts. It’s always so tough trying to get through the winter with enough turnout with grass being a real bonus.

Ouch!! Wishing both a full and speedy recovery and hopefully your daughter won’t lose her confidence. All the best.

Thanks all. She is on the mend…it was concussion, broken shoulder and broken sternum. She cannot wait to get back on but it’s going to take a while.
