EU Irish Pet Passport

Our rescue dog (who we have now had 2 and a half years) originally came from Southern Ireland and as a result he holds an EU Ireland Pet Passport (lucky dog!)
We are British.
Does that mean he doesn’t need a different passport as the EU passport covers him - also what other hoops do we have to jump through?
