Barry earlier:

I'm sure I posted this earlier but it didn't seem to appear, unless I put it on a different topic by mistake, I did do it on my phone whilst out so a possibility!

Hello friends of my favourite PH corner.

I might finally be in a position to get a dog.
My preference would be a young-ish rescue and I’ve come across the Dogsblog website, which seems to have a healthy pipeline of Eastern Europe, Cyprus and Spain rescues.

Has anyone used it and has any experiences to share?

A friend of mine has had two rescue dogs, the most recent one from Spain and I’ve never met a more chilled out dog in my life. I have no idea if that’s because she’s excellent with dogs or she has gotten lucky, but she has had a thoroughly positive experience. Before we got our puppy, we did look at getting a rescue dog from the UK but we found the descriptions very misleading anytime we enquired about a specific dog and would then get the full run down and we felt that we weren’t experienced enough to be able to provide the support required, so we ended up buying. Best of luck with the search and I hope it works out for you.

Me too. All my dogs have been from UK rescues, so I can't speak for overseas rescue organisations. I would advise that you make sure any rescue you choose has back-up in place, for both advice (eg behavioural) and in case things don't work out - otherwise it will be down to you to find help.

Will this be your first dog?

My wife knows dogs, but when I showed her she laughed and said something about swapping the heads of Jelly Babies when she was a child.

First dog as a grown up (I’m 40).

Had a dog growing up who really bonded to me and I mainly took care of until going to Uni, he must have been about 8 then.

My sister in law runs a dog walking/doggy day care business so I’m around dogs all the time but I’ve never had to raise a dog all by myself from a young age.

I’m at a stage where I’ll probably be home off work for at least 6 months so in my mind this if the perfect opportunity to raise and train a puppy and really dedicate a lot of quality time to him/her
