What’s this spider?!

Would anyone be able to identify this spider? The species rather than his personal name.

I have lived in my house for 7 years and have never seen this type of spider (in the garden) before. They are now everywhere this year.

I’m not trying to get rid of them, I’m just curious what they are. As they are now everywhere and I keep accidentally walking through the webs and getting them on my face!

Thank you, glad it’s nothing that’s escaped from a banana crate, I’m hoping they eat weevils!

If they get caught in its web it will eat them

I’m currently feeding one of mine the odd mealworm to see how big I can get it. It’s managing webs that are about 3 feet in diameter now which is impressive!

We have a colony of sparrows in the roof too and in a few weeks they’ll go cross-spider hunting which will significantly decrease their numbers and mean I get to watch sparrows acting like hummingbirds which is cool

Impressive bit of ecology. So you fatten up the spiders to feed to the sparrows, then when they're nice and fat, to complete the chain you put the sparrows in a pie for supper... Spider-fed sparrow pie - has to be a winner!

That is amazing. We have had a distinct lack of spiders here this year, both inside the house and outside. Which is a shame as I do like them.

We’ve just started seeing these in the last couple of years. Stunning. Look our for the ‘Harry Potter named’ stabilimentum web feature they make.

Evening everyone, who can help identify this monster living in my back garden.

Sorry for the crappy pic, but he only ever comes out at night and his web is like a funnel that his legs just stick out of.

That's the hinge of my patio door I can never open again.

I was hoping someone would come along and say it's just a harmless fluffy spider and they aren't the things of nightmares.

Tube web spider? Has fangs. Try tapping the trip wires at the front of the web and see what happens

It's just a harmless fluffy spider. Just let it run up your arm under your shirt. And close your eyes.

If I go outside my house now and look at the brickwork, I’ll see tens of these legs hanging out of the wall.

They have luminous green fangs too if you google tube web spider you’ll see.

Lovely things in their way. We don't get many here. We're overrun with Steatodis though.
