...we live near the Solway and get some awe inspiring Starling mumurations at various times of the year. Interesting birds which seemed to vanish and then reappear in more recent years.

back in the 70's they were considered a pest in Newcastle city centre when they used to arrive to roost in their millions in the evening to make one hell of a racket - the Council had loudspeaker things set up to chase them but you never see them there now.

^ I think they've been under pressure for a while. I used to see flocks here some years back but now they're scarce. I used to see flocks of swifts as well but those have gone as have the 25 years worth of house martins that nested on my house. All gone :-(
